Why did Rob leave the show?

I know that his character moved to Austrailia. But is there a reason why the actor that played him had to leave? Did he quit, have to be removed from the cast for some reason? Anyone know?

reply

I don't know, but I was seriously crushing on that guy!

reply

Ditto. ^_^

I wonder if there was a contract dispute or something. He seemed to leave suddenly after Get The Message and only returned to tie up lose ends a few episodes later.

reply

Ruh-ruh-ruh-Rob!

sorry.

reply

I wish he hadn't! I had a big crush on him, too. He was probably the first TV guy I ever crushed on.

A while back, one of the members got a hold of Mayteana Morales, the first actress to play Gaby. He asked her why Todd Alexander, who played Rob, left the show. She replied that it was because his character wasn't getting enough good feedback. On a side note, Mayteana left the show so she could get back to her personal life.

"He asked her why Todd Alexander, who played Rob, left the show. She replied that it was because his character wasn't getting enough good feedback."

That seems weird because I always thought he was popular.

reply

Sadness!! Rob was the BEST, how could his character not have gotten enough good feedback?

reply

Come to think of it, Rob reminds me a little bit of myself when I was that age (middle school). I noticed this when I was watching a Ghostwriter episode on Youtube the other day.

reply

I always thought so, too. I wasn't aware of it at the time, but I think I identified with him the most.

I actually think he was the better actor and had the most intricate character development.

reply

Seriously, I would take Rob over Hector any day. After re-watching the show, I can't stand Hector. He's like the kid in Captain Planet with "Heart" for a power.

reply

Lmao @ Miss Mandy. I know. I couldn't stand Hector also. Rob all the way.

Bahahahahaha! ^ THIS!

reply

no sh!t? wow. so good to know both of that.
Mayteana wanted to be a kid again, then? i can't blame her...though she was totally my favorite character...*sigh*

reply

As I recall, didnt Todd Alexander leave because he did a commercial without permission from pbs so he was written out of the show.

reply

Rob was my favorite!
Negative feedback my @$$ (try and decipher that one, Ghostwriter)...

I remember the commercial was a "Not Me Not Now" commercial with Todd Alexander. He was such an identifiable character to me as a kid! My sister and I saw Hector and were like "THIS is the new Rob!?"
Nothing really that wrong with Hector, but you felt like that character already existed in the lexicon of Ghostwriter.
Holy sh*t I just used "Lexicon" in a sentence...What a great education I got from TV!!!!!!

reply

i guess we'll never really know why he was written off the show until todd himself says why he left.

i was never sure myself, but if mayteana says that he left because he didn't get good enough feedback then i will believe that more because it came from an actual cast member.

i suppose the thing about the commercial is plausible, but it's been rumour for a long time that i'm not so sure anymore.

but i was watching the DVD and i think that rob added a missing dynamic to that show and when he left, there was a definite void.

reply

I'm almost positive Todd Alexander (Rob) was dismissed from the show because he did a commercial without clearing it with PBS. Big no-no. It's actually the same reason they axed Bob Vila from This Old House after he started doing Sears commercials.

And yeah, Hector and Casey were annoying. Never really liked them.

reply

I think the commercial thing was why he actually left while the negative feedback thing was the excuse the powers that be gave.
