What happened to Craig?

I just started rewatching the show after discovering it on YouTube, and I'd completely forgotten that Jeremy Miller (aka Ben Seaver on Growing Pains) appeared as Jamal's friend Craig, who helped exonerate him in the "Who Burned Mr. Brinker's Store?" episode. At the end of the episode, Ghostwriter announces that Craig is part of the team, but he's never seen or mentioned after that (Rob is introduced in the following episode, presumably as Craig's replacement). I'm just curious as to what happened to him.

The way I see it, there's a number of possibilities. Perhaps a test audience didn't respond well to him. He was only one year older than Sheldon Turnipseed, who played Jamal, but he just seemed older than the other kids to me, perhaps because he was tall, and didn't really seem to mesh well with the group, in my opinion. I suppose it's also possible that either Miller or his agent thought he was a big shot after coming off the success of Growing Pains and wanted too much money for him to appear on Ghostwriter. I looked at the show trivia and at the info. on Miller's page, but it's never mentioned. Has anyone ever heard anything about this?

At any rate, I do think it was a smart choice. I didn't have anything against Craig, per se, but I liked Rob much better.

That story arc was actually the pilot arc. However, after it was shot, the producers decided to shoot a new story arc to better explain the origins of Ghostwriter.

That doesn't really answer the question. Why didn't Craig stick around?

Craig was probably never intended to be a series regular, he was too old compared to the rest of the kids, he was only used to jump start the show.

Ah... Makes sense. Out of curiosity, where did you read that?
