Sad the way the show ended..

From what I understand, the show ended because of a lack of funding from PBS and the other groups that were funding the show. The show was in the top five rated kids show in America when it was on the air. It is kind of sad that no person or other group decided to fund it or pick up the rights. When they did finally create a new Ghostwriter show it was too late and not the same...Who knows maybe they can get some people involved with the original to put a proper closure on the show and begin a new version close to the original, that would be cool..

Perhaps they could restart the show with the same cast, only have them interacting with Ghostwriter as adults. That might be kind of cool. They would have to do different types of storylines, though. Maybe they could make it so that a few of the team members grew up to be detectives and the others could work along with them. That might be worth watching.

I agree with both of you. It was a favorite of mine when I was little. Maybe they can revise it to life. And get the original characters involved. Or even let it have a proper ending (a story about ghostwriter). Maybe we can write in about this?

It's been a long time and everyone has grown up. Heck, one of the main actors turned gay. I doubt they'll want him on if they tout this as a children show (I personally would have no issues).

This is a great idea, but I think it would have to be directed to teens/young adults who watched the show as kids, and have a more serious approach to it, 'cause I don't think kids nowadays would be interested in watching a bunch of grown-ups dealing with Ghost Writer, plus something tells me modern kids wouldn't care about the show (being so educative and stuff, tv is very different today)... but then again, I don't think we are enough people (GW fans) for them to make the show, I think it wouldn't be successful at all (even though I'd love it if they did it).

The problem with bringing it on today is that they don't need Ghostwriter very much to send messages, you have text messaging, plus you can go online pretty much everywhere and don't need anyone to read anything

Very true. The original show was about more than kids solving mysteries - there were also a lot of educational tie-ins. The kids did a lot of learning in the course of solving their mysteries, so the show was also intended to encourage kids to read and learn. These days, Ghostwriter would be mostly obsolete, with the exception of things he could read that the kids wouldn't have been able to see.

If they were to bring Ghostwriter back, the original cast most likely wouldn't be involved, as most have moved on from acting to other careers. That aside, it was a kids' show, and children wouldn't really be interested in watching a show about a bunch of grownups - they'd want to watch a show about kids. If any of the original cast wanted to be involved, the show could revolve around their son or daughter and his/her friends. It would make sense that Ghostwriter would choose the children of his original "team" to write to.

That said, I doubt PBS would bring the show back. I could be mistaken, but I'm assuming that with the way the economy is right now, public television wouldn't be able to get the funding required to produce a new show.

The way I'm seeing it, too many kids these days, gosh knows why, have poor Internet skills and would practically NEED Ghostwriter in their lives.

Really, really unfortunate. And these kids have a lot of luxuries. And aren't even high class.

This show was so good, especially as a kid. I am rewatching some episodes right now and it's still entertaining. I remember being excited when it came on the N/Noggin a few years ago...too bad they didn't keep it up.

yeah i had read or seen too about hector being homosexual. i just found it on youtube this weekend and am having a free-for-all watching it again...i liked this show a lot too. i could never really figure out the mystery or the case, maybe it went too fast or just seemed kinda out of nowhere for me, but at least every episode was different and it was very clean programming, but nothing too watered down. it was at an appropriate level where a young teen could watch the show, as well and be enjoyed...i think i was around 12 when the drugs ep aired...very powerful. miss the show a lot :(

thanks!

I'm sure PBS would be gung ho about that.

Seriously, that was pretty sick.

ON GHOSTWRITER'S END
Why did Ghostwriter end?

It was very expensive to make. We had a big grant from Nike in the first season, and their priorities changed, and they gave us less and less money each season. [There was] money from the Department of Education. We got a little money from the National Science Foundation in the last year, to make science-oriented shows. It's just really, really hard to sustain a public broadcasting show. We did come up with a half-hour version, which CBS picked up.

I know. I remember them saying "Viewers Like you." (Sidenote: who else memorized the "Ghostwriter is brought to you in part by...") If we would have known, they could have definitely had my allowance, could of have been the original gofundme/crowdsource. They had marathons/telethons for everything else.

I remember my PBS station showed Ghostwriter at a terrible time which was Sunday morning.
I was lucky enough to catch several episodes if I wasn't going to church. Then it seemed like I would end up watching the Max Mouse episode(s) whenever I did watch.
