Little things from Friends that annoyed you

I honestly hated how much of a bitch Phoebe was to Chandler in latter seasons. And especially that Monica never defend him when she was present.

Ultimately, everyone in the gang tip-toed around Phoebe and let her say or do whatever she wanted. It was rare anyone stood up to her in later seasons. Monica at best could be short w/ Phoebe when it comes to organization, or winning competitions.

Otherwise, I am having trouble thinking of a lot pet-peeves, because that is what I consider "little annoying things." I always see that as minor stuff that may be recurring. Like maybe a habit of an actor.

For example, a pet-peeve I had from Everybody Loves Raymond. I think Patricia Heaton and Brad Garrett could be annoying with the faces they made. Patty had something going on w/ her mouth given the way she moved it around in over the top fashion all the time. And good God, I hated to see her eat. lol It's like she had no teeth, or was determined to chew as annoyingly as possible.

So something like that would be a pet-peeve for me. I guess something from Friends would be the way Lisa would do her face sometimes after a line. Like if she was feeling a bit short, she'd flare her nose.

Someone mentioned Jen Aniston clearing her throat a lot. I don't think I ever noticed it, except once.

I found Courteney Cox's Californian accent annoying. I only just found out that was the reason she didn't say "ing" on the end of words with the right sound, it sounded more like "eeen". It was such a tiny thing to be annoyed about it, but I only realised it because of Kaley Cuoco on The Big Bang Theory, as she does the same thing.

Speaking of Phoebe, it always annoyed me how she was supposed to be this unconventional kook who was a happy, free-spirited liberal weirdo with a unique view of the world.

Except whenever Ursula was around. Then she became an angry, conservative reactionary who demanded normalcy and conventionality from her sister.

The mask dropped. The hypocrite came out.

reply

Well that's typical.

Phoebe tends to ACT more liberal and understanding than she really is.

1. She seems to lack any kind of respect for Chandler because he's not manly enough.
2. She says Tim is too sweet because he worries about her too much, and that he needs to be a man.
3. She tells Joey a man doing his eyebrows is on his way to becoming a woman. But it's ok for her, a woman to color her hair.

She's sure into gender roles and old-fashioned views of masculinity for someone so liberal and accepting.

4. She calls Rachel uptight for being embarrassed by her running, then passively states she's not judging since uptight is who she is. After mocking Rachel's running.
5. There's her wearing the fur coat
6. Then getting offended if someone doesn't like the stuff she does, while insulting everyone else.

also she never convinced as a street beggar girl in her past life

8. I think the way she was so stubborn as to risk Monica losing custom instead moving on with her crappy guitar is the worst thing she ever did to one of them.

We have to show the world that not all of us are like him: Henning von Tresckow.

reply

it was like she felt ursula was outdoing her in the weird kooky stakes so she ended up being more conservative than she normally did around her

reply

Rachel not being able to get thru a sentence without clearing her throat.

reply

Which makes her impression of Ross, clearing his throat every second word, ridiculous. That annoyed me so much!

reply

Skinny Chandler.

His appearance did spoil it for me a little in those episodes.

reply

Chandler was skinny in some episodes because Matthew Perry was coming off of opiates in real life. Opiate withdrawal is horrible. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I don't know how Perry managed going through withdrawals while still being able to manage filming the show. When I went through it I was so weak and sick the first week...week and a half. It blows!!!!

reply

It's quite petty of me, but I suppose that's the point of the thread.

Geographical errors in the show bug the hell out of me. I've only ever been to New York once, but even with my basic knowledge of where things are, it annoys me when something is said that is blatantly wrong.

The worst is where Phoebe lives. In the episode where she and Rachel find a phone that has been left in Central Perk, she gives her address as Morton Street. We know Monica lives on the corner of Grove and Bedford as this is shown many times. Take a look at a map of Manhattan and you will notice that Morton Street is just around the corner from Grove/Bedford, no more than a 3 minute walk even if Phoebe lived at the furthest end away on Morton.

In another episode when Ross Geller thinks Monica's car is being towed from the roadside, she says it is in a parking garage on Morton. So presumably she would park her car within walking distance of her apartment.

Yet it is implied more than once that Phoebe lives well away from the rest of the group.

reply

It's really not big of a deal but I hated Emily's facial expressions. I didn't think the actress was bad but there were moments where she would talk to Ross and she would open her eyes very wide. Idk why it always irritated me.
