Why didn't Monica just pick her own damn brother up from the airport?

Seriously though, why didn't she? She's boring. And it's her brother so technically even though he's a grown man [debatable] she's still most responsible for him in their group! Although, it wouldn't matter if Joey, Chandler or Phoebe got Ross from the airport, but still. Anyway, Monica wasn't doing anything at the moment and Rachel was in the middle of a date in the balcony, a date Monica lightly scolded her for having. ------> Just this, Ross and Rachel are not even dating yet, but Monica scolds Rachel for dating Carl, and yet, she is perfectly okay and too supportive when Ross comes all the way home with Julie? Brother or not, double standard right?
Meanwhile on the balcony, Rachel can't help but see Ross everywhere she looks and ends the date abruptly. She rushes to the airport, trips falls, hits her head, talk about falling hard and falling fast for someone-just to see him with Julie. Here's the thing:

Why did Monica not go to the airport? She could've gone instead of asking Rachel to go to the airport at gate 27 B, see if Monica went, she could have gone, asked Ross and Julie to sit in the waiting area, went to a pay phone and called Rachel, breaking the news to her gently, so Rachel could have had a chance to adjust and been let down easy....it's just being a little sensitive.

Remember how in a couple of my other posts, later on in their relationship I mentioned Rachel cancelled two of her own dates abruptly when she saw Ross sad and took care of him---I mentioned those dates being Mark and Dave. The difference between her cancelling those dates to sit with Ross is because at that point Rachel had already finished her relationship with him, they were over and she saw how sad he was life wasn't working out for him.....her first date was three weeks after the break fight, and it was with Mark, Ross, [even though he'd been spying on her] was too much for her. And Dave [GQ male model], well that was after he went through with his wedding to Emily, came home and received a package filled with mulch. I wonder why? Anyways, ironically, Monica scolded Rachel for cancelling her own date and leaving him high and dry...here in the opposite reason, she scolded Rachel for dating Carl, because she felt she'd [Rachel] already chose him instead of her own brother, but she scolds Rachel for Dave because she felt that she'd [Rachel] chose her own brother instead of Dave.
Ironically, it doesn't change anything about my other posts, because the cancelling from Carl came before Rachel and Ross were exclusive, and the cancelling from Mark and Dave was after Rachel and Ross broke up.

OK, um...breathe?

What use is anybody picking someone up from the airport WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE A CAR?!?!?!?

The only reason Rachel went to the airport is that she couldn't wait any longer to tell Ross how she felt about him. Which obviously was messed up with the appearance of Julie. Hence her acting all depressed throughout that episode and being jealous of Julie while she was around.

Otherwise, there's no reason to take a cab to the airport to get someone and put them in another cab to come home.

No. Monica demanded Rachel pick up Ross, hence the line;

"Isn't it time to get Ross at the airport gate 27-B?"

Second:
Rachel and Ross were not exclusive either. Did Rachel know Ross had started a romantic relationship with Julie? No she did not. She was not in China with him and he was not at her birthday party. In fact, it was Chandler's fault since he's the one who spilled the beans about how much Ross loved her---but the whole time he was in China, he was with Julie and had no trouble asking her out or getting someone to translate words into a love letter for her.
Given that, how can you make the claim that it's messed up for her to go to the airport to bring Ross home and begin the relationship together when she didn't even know he was going to be going home with Julie?

If Rachel has no car either, why should the burden have fallen onto her? Before that, when she, Phoebe and Monica were cleaning up and sipping coffee together Rachel was just lightly thinking about starting a relationship with Ross and sharing it with Phoebe and Monica. Whenever doubts started and Rachel thought dating Ross would strain the friendships and it would be like her dating all six of them, Monica scolded her. She even yelled "Why are you dumping my brother?"------Before Rachel and Ross were boyfriend and girlfriend.

reply

Do you understand the concept of a fictional TV sitcom?

Ross is a grown man. Nobody needed to pick him up from the airport, the 'burden' didn't fall on anyone.

Rachel decided, with a little prompting from Monica and the others, that she would meet Ross at the airport. Obviously this didn't go as planned because of the unexpected presence of Julie.

reply

First of all, get the quote right.

"Hey, doesn't Ross' flight get in in a couple hours? At gate 27-B?"

Monica wasn't telling Rachel to get Ross; she was telling her he's coming back and maybe Rachel had something to tell him. Then Rachel decided there would be too much pressure to date Ross, but then she couldn't get him out of her head while having drinks with Carl.

And clearly you missed the season premiere the following year as well because there was a scene where Ross had said he took Chandler's advice to "forget about her."

And finally, Monica scolded Rachel about dating Ross BEFORE Rachel said there would be too much pressure and dating him would be like dating all of them. Monica then promised she wouldn't pressure her...and immediately did it, but then apologized.

If you're going to rant, at least get the facts right. You're not running for President, you know.

you know what? Monica's reaction to Rachel's date in that episode proved at least 2 things for me:

1)The emotional abuse Rachel had to deal with when it came to Ross, from Ross and the 4 others. He moves on,he's applauded. She does the same, they're all over her with "what about poor Ross?"

2) Tthe break-Mark thing:Given Monica's reaction in this episode, who in their right mind would think that Rachel dumped Ross for Mark and would bring Mark, her new man at the appartement she shares with Ross's sister?
Had Rachel dumped Ross, she would have told him so,not tried to hide or explain Mark's presence and she sure wouldn't have met her new man in the appartement of the sister of the man she just dumped.

reply

You are officially unhinged.

How the hell have you managed to shoehorn the Mark situation (which occurred in Season 3) into a thread that references an incident that happened between the end Season 1 and the start of Season 2?

reply

Actually I've been saying things since my very firsts posts about the subject to anyone who claimed that Ross really thought after the phone call, that she dumped him.Which is totally impossible

reply

Way to completely miss what PaulWard27 was saying.

reply

I'm well aware of that, as stated, my point is that you manage to repeat this view in numerous threads, even when the subject matter doesn't even concern that situation.

reply

So wait, it's Chandler's fault that Ross decided to date Julie over Rachel?
I wonder who's fault it was that Ross decided to marry Carol? No free will for the Geller Boy. And your attempts to scold me don't hold any water at all/since Monica said "Doesn't Ross' flight get in, in a couple of hours---> Gate 27 B?" It still sounds like she's asking Rachel to pick him up from the airport to me, since Ross is not in the apartment yet, otherwise, why is it important Rachel know what Gate he's coming in from if she's not going to get him from the airport? Why didn't Monica just say,
"Ross is going to be here in a couple of hours?"
Why did she mention the flight getting in and the exact gate number to Rachel?

As far as Chandler telling Ross to forget about Rachel, that's a whole other kettle of fish. So funny, Joey also gave Ross the same advice to forget all about Carol and start something up with Rachel instead, but he [Joey] phrased it differently he said "Grab a spoon."
We all know how Ross reacted to that, don't we?

reply

Are you completely dense?

She told him the flight details/gate number because she was encouraging her to go and meet him.

reply

Tomato---Tomah-toe!

There was no reason at all she needed to know in your own words, since she wasn't supposed to be burdened into picking Ross up from the airport anyway, according to you. You said since Ross is a grown man, nobody needs to pick him up from the airport Monica has no car----then why should Rachel need to put her plans on hold and be inconvenienced why not just let him come to her?

Anyway, when she gets to the airport, she sees Ross has met somebody else. So, did she tell him that she was starting to fall in love with him after she saw him with Julie? No she didn't. But in your opinion, it's Okay for Monica to harass Rachel about going to the airport to see Ross even though Rachel has decided to be with someone else [she and Ross were not dating at this time] it's all right for Monica to scold Rachel?
Anyway, Rachel abruptly cancels her date and rushed to the airport with flowers. Just a little trivia; Jennifer Anniston wasn't actually supposed to get hurt filming that part, but she tripped and fell over the line of chairs, bleeding, it became like an earmark for the episode. Fans would say;
"That was the episode where Rachel had a big bandage on her forehead!"
Then it turns out Ross is decided to date someone else as well. Meanwhile, Monica who was all up in arms about Rachel 'rejecting Ross' was perfectly happy to see Ross dating some other girl instead of Rachel! Where is the logic---and spare me the "family" "Blood is thicker than water" logic because it doesn't hold. Just because a girl is your sister, it doesn't mean she is obligated to side with you on these matters and has to take your side over the side of a close friend of hers. There is no law that says that's how family works. There is no obligation.

You are a waste of oxygen.

I take it that means you're out of arguments and I win. Merry Christmas and screw you!

reply

No, it means I'm tired of you talking utter crap and simply making things up and being completely inept at interpreting the show.

You are either a troll or as thick as two short planks, so I can't be bothered wasting my time.

reply

But I didn't make anything up at all in the post. Monica scolded Rachel for dating Carl on the balcony even though she and Ross were not together at all. Monica asked Rachel if she remembered Ross is getting off the plane in a couple hours at gate 27-b. Monica kept asking why Rachel was dumping her brother--even though Rachel was not dating her brother.
Monica was not too busy that she couldn't go to the airport herself, so why was she so hung up on the flight information?
I didn't make those things up, they happened during the episode.

Turns out it wouldn't have mattered anyway, since if Ross made his own way home, Rachel would have already been there with Carl and Ross would have entered with Julie. Turns out, nobody likes you.

Here's another thing I didn't make up:
IT IS CHRISTMAS. TODAY IS DECEMBER 25.

So like I said before, Merry Christmas and screw you.

If you continue to ignore the entire reason why Monica told Rachel when Ross' flight got in, ESPECIALLY when the next thing Rachel talks about is choosing not to date him, then that's your problem. I can't fix stupid and blockheaded.

Emotional abuse? You're beyond pathetic. Oh, and speaking of abuse, how about Rachel attacking Ross for not bribing Treeger with enough money to fix the radiator? Or attacking Ross for not believing Phoebe's mother was in that cat, even though Phoebe admitted to it right afterwards?

You using emotional abuse in this context is an insult to everyone in our society who actually goes through legitimate abuse.

You sick f'king bitch.
