Last line by Chandler...

What is funny in the last line when Chandler says "Where?"
Obviously they will go to central perk so why does he say "Where?"

reply

That's why it's funny..
The entire show had the friends hanging out together while having coffee at Central Perk. They never had coffee or really hung out anywhere else in all of Manhattan. It basically anchored them. When Chandler asks "Where?" he is being his usual sarcastic self, but really what his one word means is that he and the group aren't actually ready to break apart. They still wanted to hang out together in their usual spot while drinking coffee on their cozy orange couch. Basically there was no other place or other group in the world they would ever have picked. It was pretty poignant! Lol

I'm surprised anyone needs this explaining tbh.

It's sarcasm.

Like other answers, it was sarcasm.

Similar to season 1, where they wait for Ben to be born. Monica wakes Chandler up and tells him to come with her and get coffee. And Chandler replies "Yeah, because we never do that."

Is it me or does someone come along every few months to ask why a funny line is funny even though it's pretty blatant what the joke is?

Hmmm.

reply

well according to season 10 dvd commentary he said where because the the central perk set was already gone when they film that scene

it's never Joan Van Ark- Marge Simpsons

reply

There's no way you heard this. Why are you trolling?

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

reply

Really? If that's true, it makes that line so different to me now.

reply

So you really think the CHARACTER Chandler said "where?" because the set was already dismantled? Really? Really, you are going to consider that as a possibility?

I'll have to check if I have that commentary, but if it's correct, then maybe it was aimed at the live audience (if they still had one at that point) as they would have seen the set be dismantled. So basically a breaking of the fourth wall, so to speak. Of course, if anyone has seen the actual script of the episode, and Chandler still says it, then this is very unlikely as there would most likely be no way of knowing that the set would be dismantled. For this to be correct, the line needed to have been a last minute addition, or even an ad-lib by Matthew Perry.

I think I actually remember thinking in the past that there was a mention of Central Perk closing down that I missed, and that was the point of the line, that they had to find a new place, but of course, I was wrong. If the set being dismantled thing is wrong, then it's obviously "Well, where else would they go?" as people have been saying.
