Episode - White Men Can't Jump to Conclusions

On last night's episode shown on ITV 3; did my ears deceive me or did Benton Fraser introduce himself to the leader of the basketball as Benjamin. If so, why? Also in this episode he called Inspector Thatcher Ma'am a couple of times as well as Sir. Why did he call her Ma'am? I thought it was always Sir; which brings me to my last question; why Sir when she is a female? Can someone answer these questions for me? Cheers

honestly, I don't know the answer to any of those quetions, butI have a theory that maybe Benton called her ma'am because he relises he respects her more and sometimes he calls her sir because she oftens confuses him by acting all superior and ordering him about and he alredy has in his head how a woman should behave and she acts so high and mighty that he associates her with a man.

Oh no, now itlooks like I 've tried too hard to aswer the question and I probably sound like a know it all.

i dont know the answer either but i noticed in a recent episode, maybe 'eggmen' cant recall, fraser says dislocating his shoulder is something hes never been able to do, yet that is exactly what he did in 'hawk & a handsaw' series 1

Wasn't one of the basketball guys called Benjamin? Maybe Fraser was talking about him, rather than introducing himself? To be honest, I wasn't really giving my full attention to this episode (a crime, I know!) so he could have said anything and I wouldn't have noticed.

I remember Fraser dislocating his shoulder in 'Hawk and Handsaw'. And I also remember him winning at poker when he's playing with the guys in 'You Must Remember This', and yet in 'Odds' he has to be taught how to play because he's not very good and even by the end of the episode he's still calling it a crowded home rather then full house. I'm sure there are plenty more inconsistencies!

In "You Must Remember This" he may have won the game, but he got the name of his hand wrong. Might have been beginner's luck that he won (?).

"Body Language" - he was tied up with the exotic dancer and rambling on about his uncle - and I think saying he couldn't dislocate his shoulder - so that has to be a continuity error with "Hawk and a Handsaw."

I don't think Thatcher would be offended by being called ma'am or sir...I never thought too much about that one. I'll have to watch WMCJTC for 'Benjamin.'

it's been awhile since i last saw Due South, probably 6 years, but i think in the first episode that Insp. Thatcher was in SHE said something about calling her sir not ma'am.
