Why Different Dief?

Does anyone know why a different dog to Lincoln was used to play Diefenbaker in the Pilot? He was a grey/white husky who did look more like a wolf than either Lincoln or Draco who are both beige/white. The original dog can still be seen in the opening credits but I don't recall seeing his name at the end of the pilot - or did Lincoln have a makeover once fame and fortune called! I'm probably so interested because I have a dog of Canadian breed, only mine is a Newfoundland whose chief interest is sleeping so not good for chasing crims, even though being jet black she would have looked very good next to the red uniform, though not as good as Paul Gross in it of course!

Due South keeps me sane - can't live without my weekday fix of quirky canadians.

Basically it was because they needed a dog (and trainer) based in Canada.

His name is Frankie.

Thanks for the lead (no pun intended) - the people who run that site are even more obsessed than those of us who contribute here, now that really takes some doing!

Aaaw, poor Lincoln got fired - He is the cutest though

Newman(pilot Dief) was a bit too evil looking i thought

You've got a point about Newman, in the scene in the bar where a baddie goes to attack Fraser with a bottle(?) Newman warns the baddie off but looks like he is frothing at the mouth. I don't think Fraser or the RCMP would want to be associated with rabid wolves - not a good image. Even when Lincoln is being defensive (never aggressive) he manages to look sweet.

i have an a interview with paul gross in TV Zone or CultTimes(cant tell which as i cut them up for posters) but he says newman used to confuse the meaning of the word 'ACTION' and took it as his que to leave the set/scene which made filming scenes with him difficult as he would always run off at hearing the word action.
