theme tune

Does anyone know who performs the theme tune to Due South?

reply

Its Jay Semko, he did a lot of the music in the programme. I love the music in this show.

**I love the music in this show. **

I've been watching the show recently and have to smile at the music they choose. A few nights ago the episode featured a song by 'Kashtin', an Innu duo that you probably would never hear anywhere else.

reply

Yeah I love that song and you are right you would never have heard it if it weren't for Due South.

I agree the music is a great part of the show. Everything about the show is brilliant. The storylines, the acting, the settings. The music just compliments the whole thing.

Thanks for the information about the theme tune. I've been wondering about that for years.

For anyone in the UK who doesn't know, the show is being rerun on channel 119 on Sky. Everynight at 7 pm. Just brilliant as ever.

There are two soundtracks available for this show too. They are both great and the have the theme song on both of them. I strongly recommend that you should go out and buy them.

i think it was a band called northen pikes

reply

Yeah you are right.
Jay Semko was in the Northern Pikes, one of their songs was featured on the episode "A Cop, A Moutie & A Baby".

Send a private message and I can give it to you. :)

I used to love watching these. Now they are being rerun on british tv, and I can savour them again.

..that opening theme song was great, one of my favourites to a TV show ever and, of course, the show itself was amazing ... shame they cancelled it, be awesome if they brought it back though.. for a third time, lol

Re: the original posting of "who sang the theme song", I've been wondering about that as I recently finished my own personal marathon watching of the DVDs and there are at least 2 maybe 3 different versions or styles of singing of the end theme song. So while it may be the same singer mentioned above, (but it actually sounds like different people to me), does anyone know for sure who did all the different versions of the end theme song over the end credits?

reply

I think all the versions(i count 2- the origonal and the theme for '97- but i don't own the soundtracks so...) are by Northen Pikes(Jay Semko & co), but the '97 one has just been sort of modified; there's a more prominent electric guitar and harmonica throughout (on amazon.com, you can compare the same sections of the songs from the origonal and '97 version)
The same guys sing it, but that has also been changed a little, which may sound like a different singer, but i don't think it is myself I prefered the first version either way

I've been sitting here too long! By a man from Milwaukee

I would agree with what Crazy_Beautiful has said.

"That's just silly Ray" Fraser

Paul Gross himself does the vocals on the theme tune. Talented guy ! The theme tune was updated in 1997 when the programme was resurrected with new Ray K, which may account for it sounding different, but it's still Paul singing then too.
