Than you! I have another question. Did the hunter shoot Gerard on purpose? Was he being sarcastic when he said "sorry thought it was a caribou" or was he being serious?

Fraser Sr found out about it, discovered a conspiracy to cover it up (bribery) and was killed for it, on orders of his former friend and colleague.

Just watched it again last night and what surprised me (because I haven't watched it in so long) was that the father was actually part of the conspiracy and bribery. His friend and former colleague Gerard who arranged his killing actually shows Fraser his father's checking account ledger which contains all the bribery deposits. But then his father had a change of heart and tries bring the criminals to justice and was killed.

Chief to Benton: "There is no record of your father making any withdrawals. None of the deposits were made in person. People will believe what they want to believe. I know I do."

Fraser Snr was framed. That's what I believe :)

You can blame it on the rain, or you can dance in it.

It seemed pretty clear to me that Fraser, Sr, was framed. Gerard brought it up so that Benton would stop the investigation. He didn't think Benton would want to ruin his father's reputation. From what we learn about Robert's career elsewhere in the series, I don't think he would have been tempted just by money.
