werent u bothered when they replaced Ray?

i mean sure he wasnt that lovable but the new one was way worse!

I was bothered that the actor left - at the time I didn't know if it he was fired or if he had better offers. I tend to automatically think that the problem is the actor's ego, but I've been wrong before.

However, in this case, if you look up Trivia on the "Due South (1997)" page you'll find: "David Marciano opted not to return to the spin-off after a contract dispute with Alliance Atlantis, the production company."

[So there!]

I think when the series rebooted, as it were, he was obligated to the project The Last Don and couldn't come back.

I like both Rays equally.

And u gotta admit, the way they replaced original Ray, David Marciano was really cool and I suppose some what original by recasting the role, yet have the new actor be impersonating original Ray instead of just having Callum Keith Rennie playing original Ray.

They should have just "pulled a Darren" and had the new actor take over the same role, but since Due South is known for running gags, let that be a new one. The first show with the new Ray did just that until the end when the "new Ray" was explained. They should have stopped before that point and just used Ray's different look as another running gag for the rest of the season. Lots of "oh, you've changed" comments from people who knew the old Ray, a shrug of the shoulders, then on with the rest of the show. That sort of thing.

I thought it ruined the show.

How did it ruin the show?? It wasn't a serious drama...it was more of a comedy and everything was done tongue in cheek.

I LOVED Callum Keith Rennie...liked him much much better than David.

I definitely liked the old Ray better, but I give them all the credit in the world for the way they handled the transition. I thought it was creative and about as satisfying as possible, given the circumstances.

At first, but the second Ray grew on me.

Old Ray was good but the actor left for another role.

Its that man again!!

I was. I feel that Ray K and Fraser didn't have the same chemistry (for lack of a better word) as there was w/ the real Ray and Fraser. The real Ray grew to understand and respect Fraser's way of doing things; Ray K just seems more consistently annoyed by him. Plus he's a lot rougher on people.
