I'm doing it a lot as well :)

I haven't said "thank you Kindly" in while - but watching reruns - I've started saying "Oh Dear" - in a very Frazier kind of way!

reply

Yep. I say Thankyou Kindly, Oh dear and Ah!. I also seem to have to hold open doors for people. Due South is a bad (or really good) influence on me! Lol.

Oh yes, I have become more polite since watching. Also walked past the Canadian Embassy in London the other day and remarked that there were no Mounties on guard and where had Diefenbaker got to - my companions looked at me like I was mad so lots of explaning needed.

Re. tonight's episode: Fraser and Francesca, did they or didn't they?

Here's a story you're going to love. It was some years ago, porbably when the 3rd series was airing. Anyway, my mum came back from work babbling about Due South...

My mum works very near the Canadian embassy in London, and when she went out in her lunch hour she saw they had some kind of event on. There was a whole load of Mounties outside, and Canadian officials, I think a visiting politician or two, the Queen, Celine Dion, and...Paul Gross, dressed up as Fraser (well, in the red Mountie uniform)!!

Obviously I'm extremely jealous. I don't know what the event was, but it's amusing to think that, as Canada was showing off the best of it's country, Due South was considered worthy of this (certainly better than Celine Dion in my opinion)!

If a customer doesn't have a smile on their face, give them one of yours. 'Scalpel, anyone?'

reply

I'm also jealous!

But....what if Paul were to sing My Heart Will Go On? That should have happened in an episode! It would have been a bigger hit than when Celine Dion sang it for sure!

I'm a wild and an untamed thing.
I'm a bee with a deadly sting!

Wish I had been there, do you think they would do it again if we asked them politely - Canadians being such nice people and all. As an extra says to Elaine in one of the early episodes "Now there's a country that knows what to export".

Near panic attack tonight when I noticed that season 1 is due to finish on ITV3 next Tuesday and no Due South scheduled for next Wednesday, just 2 hours of Sherlock Holmes. But fear not, season 2 apparently starts next Thursday.

Tonight's episode (Invitation to Romance) is probably my least favourite as the Jane Krakowski character just gets on my nerves. Not enough Leslie Nielsen in this series either. Victoria's Secrets is being aired tomorrow and Monday, don't know why they felt the need to put it either side of the weekend but there you go.

Apparently Paul Gross loves Monty Python so I'm surprised he never managed to work the Lumberjack Song (where all the Pythons are dressed as Mounties) into an episode - or perhaps it didn't get past the censors. So, so glad Celine Dion never got a look-in though!

"She shot me in the hat Ray"

reply

I avoid that episode (An Invitation to Romance) because of Jane Krakowski's character! She is very annoying, I can't take it! I've seen the whole episode at least once, but when I tried to sit through it again, I turned it off within 5 minutes!

reply

Granted, it's not one of my favorites, but the first time I saw it, we were eating pizza. There they are, in line at the post office, and the clerk asks, "You're marrying a deaf, mute Mountie that you don't recognize" (or some such idea), and Fraser says "Perhaps I can explain..." I laughed so hard that the sausage came out my nose! OMG that hurt!!! My husband still laughs at me about it - and it was 8 or 9 years ago.

My friend Curran who is an obessive fan of the show ALWAYS says 'thank you kindly' it was cool at first and now I don't even notice it anymore. Though perfect strangers do, especially tourists, they give him funny looks.

Serenity for all

i still do and i get really funny looks, I work in a library in one of the roughest areas in kent and i'm 24, imagine the looks i get from the elderly and young alike?! it's habit now, i can't break it, but it keeps me in npeoples good books cause i'm "so polite" so i dont care now!

Let's face it, if Paul had sung "My Heart Will Go On" the iceberg would have melted - just like my heart does every time I see the clip in the opening credits (originally in Free Willie I think) when he turns his head to the side and raises his eyebrows. How can one man make a hat so damn sexy?

"She shot me in the hat Ray"

reply

I know!!! I tried a Mountie hat on once (in Ottawa) and it looked ridiculous on me!!!

I personally love the scene in "Dief's Day Off" when he has just finished having his bath in the (communal bathroom) and all his neighbours are waiting to get in and he come out wearing nothing but a towel......and that hat!

Im going to go away and calm down now!!!

"Easy Miss, I've got you"
"You've got me? Who's got you"

reply

I know exactly what you mean miss-molly :) that's one of my many favourite scenes for some strange reason ;)

You let a wolf save your life, they make you pay and pay and pay . . .

reply

Well to be honest i've been saying it since i stared school in the 80's so long before due south ever came on tv i even used it sign off letters. so when due south came on i got oh your only using it because paul gross is but nah they knew just messing with me it was funny at the time.

reply

Okay I also need to now take a cold, very, very cold shower! What I would have given to be on set that day.

I say it all the time in emails - not to people I know, but to bill collectors, etc. I love that phrase! My husband and I love this show - we agreed that when he dies (first) we are going to quote some of the most memorable phrases from this show. I'm so sad - I can't believe Benton Frasier is not a real person! This and Corner Gas are the best things to come out of Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I tend to overuse exclamation points. So sue me - but thank you kindly for doing so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

I still use it at the office in my voice mail. It is a perfectly good phrase and sentiment.
