Seasons on DVD

Why the hell hasn't HBO released any of his seasons to DVD? I know they would make a good amount of money. Any information?

Well put. I would pay top dollar to see this show on DVD- one of my all-time favorite shows, and certainly my favorite talk show.

If anyone has this show recorded on tape/DVD, particularly collections of "The Big Screen" segments, let me know- I might be interested in purchasing a copy.

I do have many hours of The Big Screen (always loved it) on tape!

This is my best guess:

If Dennis can release his rants in book format, then that tells me that he owns the copyright to the material that was written for the show.

If the above is right, then HBO can't do a DVD without making a deal with Dennis.

However, further guessing, HBO probably owns the copyright to the completed show.

If the above is right, then Dennis couldn't do a DVD withoug making a deal with HBO.

So, there may not be a cost-effective deal for both sides to be made. HBO probably owns the shows outright that they put on DVD.

OR

My second best guess:

They believe that it wouldn't sell well enough.

For the record, both of my guesses are based on conjecture and not actual knowledge.

To put it another way: That's just my opinion . . . I could be wrong.

If that's the problem, why not just change the theme song? It's not like it hasn't been done countless times before on other shows.

Also because his material was so topical and these shows are pushing 15-20 yrs. old now, meaning only 40-somethings and older would give a crap-- probably not the ideal demo for DVD releases, but who knows? They're probably better suited for a time capsule than a DVD release.

I have a bunch of these on VHS but these are pretty old now, too, and most of them have some sort of hiccup that even the ole VHS tricks can't fix.
