The Day Today vs Brasseye?

Probably been done before but what the hay

For me has to be TDT

"Eat that ... AND ANOTHER!"

"TW*T ... that was liquid football"

"SH*T did you see that?!?"

no way you big spastic, you're a mentallist!

reply

TDT

reply

I think they're both absolutely hysterical. The intros to TDT are so f'n funny. WELCOME, hello you. YES. Those are the headlines, happy now. Those amazing football commentary by alan partridge of the '94 world cup that someone posted were hilarious. I say that they are both equaly as good but if I had to pick one or the other I'd say TDT

reply

The Dat Today... "...eat my goal!!!"

reply

The Day Today. On The Hour or The Day Today? On the Hour.

reply

The greatest bit on on the hour has got to be the leaves bit.

"Leaves, they are some, leaves"

Heheh, I guess it doesn't quite work when you write it.

reply

My fave is Rok Tv where Nirvana sing the advert for Panty Smile. & The bit with the Ostrich who says "Hi Im Sinead O'Connor & I watch Rock tV!!" Classic!!
Oh & of course, The Bureau. Yeh thats my fave.

reply

Its so funny when the beaureau is taken out on the road on a travelling platform because its losing viewers, but the BBC insist that its policy with all programs!

And the culling of the staff at Buckingham Palace, and Queen Margaret, "I laughed, and laughed, and laughed!"

reply

Not far off the mark, since "Teen Spirit" was originally the name of a deodorant!

reply

brasseye.

"women fancy you when they see you kicking the s*it out of a weasel"

reply

I like both equally.

However my favourite scene would have to be Fur Q on Rok TV.

reply

[deleted]

Yeah Fur-Q is legendary!

Cop! Bitch! Cop bitch *beep*

I reckon he should've been in a few more stories, or maybe he should've done little bit on Brasseye cos Ted Maul was on both shows!

reply

I love them both. Can't choose!

"Don't shine that torch in my face mate, I've just lost a pint of blood"

reply

anyone who says tdt is a *beep* moron

best bits about tdt were partridge, morris' parts were good but his style of humour reached its peak in brass eye

the rest of tdt has aged terribly, unlike the relentless brilliance of brass eye

Brasseye because TDT seems aged and sometimes does really long reports that aren't funny in the slightest. I love them both. Chris Morris all the way.

Well excuse my French Mrs Marsh but you can suck my fat, hairy balls

reply

Brasseye Paedophilia Special (the finest satire ever written, and indeed ever will be written) >>>> TDT War Episode >>>> Brasseye 'Sex' episode (Good AIDS, Bad AIDS) >>>> TDT and rest of Brasseye equally

....Those are the headlines....NOW FACT ME TILL I FART!

reply

Has to be Brass eye.

''Unbelievable Krimewave''

but the john fashanu bit on tdtd always makes me laugh

reply

Why are they a moron? Maybe they just preferred it. Jesus that's a terrible comment. I think the day today was perhaps more groundbreaking, and i prefer the fact it actually looks like the news, but brass eye is funnier, and pushes the envelope a little more.

I shot the deputy, but Bob Marley killed the sheriff.

reply

Brass Eye for me. The Day Today was probably funnier, but i didnt think it was as incisive as Brass Eye.

I like both, but Brass Eye is clearly more of Morris' baby, whereas The Day Today seems to be more collaborative, and more hit and miss. I think I probably laugh more at Brass Eye, but I love how absurd The Day Today, the it plays with language is fantastic, and Peter O'Hanarha-hanrahan is one of my favourite Morris characters ever (though he's not quite as good as Ted Maul).

"Peter! You've lost the news!"

reply

Brass Eye is better satire, but The Day Today is funnier.

"Take her off the monitor, I don't want to see her face!"

reply

I'd have to agree that Brass Eye is more savage and satirical, but The Day Today is the funnier show. There's so many side-splitting bits in it. "The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding, in this case, is a football...BOOF! Eat my goal!"

Rok TV is absolute genius - I remember the MTV Europe of the early to mid-nineties and it was almost exactly like that. Harfyn Teuport could easily have been a real presenter.

Also, the scene where Morris interviews Spartacus Mills about the Queen and John Major fighting never fails to have me in hysterics:

"We're pushed for time, can you sum it up in a word?"

"No."

"A sound?"

"Whooooooaar."

"Spartacus, thank you."

reply

here here with diamondjoe's post, just watched brass eye again, its good but in comparison to tdt its a wee bit too laboured and repetitive.

the best kinda justice would be if my last victim, colin akavido, could be dug up and he could kill me.
if democracy is a bra then the monarchy are breasts, and we cannot imagine a society without breasts, helas.
and its difficuilt not to feel humbled or even ashamed after that.

Another vote for The Day Today - the Brasseye set-ups of celebrities were generally probably funnier than most of the sketches in TDT, but the scripted content of the TDT has dated much better than that in Brasseye, in my opinion.
