Too short a life...

Understandably from CBS' POV, Christy was not a stronghold, far as successful Prime dramas. It was labeled too considerable to Dr. Quinn; a head-runner, though the plot lines and back stories were obviously far different, and cinematically. Many critics thumbed Christy down, calling it a Dr. Quinn "copycat" (which it obviously was not)

And Kellie Martin's performance as the title role also received just above mediocre reviews, unfortunately. Some even compared her to Megan Follows' Anne Shirley, of Anne of Green Gables (if you can believe that) Which I felt was way off base, as not only was Christy not a Canadian series, nor Canadian themed, but also a far different atmosphere and characters.

I didn't know it only lasted a year. I liked this wholesome show.

Yeah. I loved it too. I had hope it was the next Little House On The Prairie.

Me too. I heard at the time that CBS was breaking away from Christian programming. Too bad another channel didn't pick it up. I wish Netflix would air it.

I saw the show first. I liked it and wanted to read the book. I borrowed it from my local library. I had to put it on reserve. It took awhile, before it came to me. I enjoyed it. Later, I found the book on sale. It had Kellie on the cover. I bought it. It fell apart from reading so much. A few years ago, I found another copy at a bookstore. I bought it. This copy has Lauren on the cover. It is still in one piece. I guess I don't read it as much as I used too.

I thought it was filmed in Canada (or parts of it were), however. Perhaps that's where the confusion originated.

Either way, I agree with you 100%. Fie on the so-called "critics"--they wouldn't know good storytelling/film-making/acting if it jumped up and bit them on their collective posteriors!

The movies were filmed in Canada. The series was filmed in the Great Smoky mountains on location, which is what made it so outstanding, in my opinion. The Rockies were not a good substitute for the Smokies; very different in appearance. I've heard that some of the sets, like the church/school are still standing, but on private property.

You are correct. I realized that shortly after I'd posted; but just felt too lazy to log in and change it. :) Thanks for the information.
