Opening title sequence and show quality

Like many of you, I'm now rewatching Seasons 1-2 on hulu, and what a great new hobby! Hopefully additional seasons are coming. I remember thinking at the time this show was a class above ER -- I can now easily confirm that feeling. (And ER was a great series.)

Another strong conviction I remember lecturing about to everyone was the opening title sequence, slightly changed each year. This remains THE BEST TV SERIES OPENING OF ALL TIME. The graphics, video edits, and most of all the music!! The music was nominated twice for Emmy's as best theme music, and won (once I think).

The production values for this show were just golden the first year when David Kelly was writing. You can see it slipping when he left, and understand why Peter MacNichol wanted to leave. The stories get weird, unbelievable, with technical and editing goofs. But this series remains as one of the best in the TV world.

Season 2 still worked for me, Kelley was transitioning out but still gave new characters great intros and MacNicol gets one heck of a swan song. I do believe he left though because Kelley wrote the part of John Cage on Ally McBeal specifically for him.

That was two years after he was written out of Chicago Hope. He maintained a good productive relationship with Kelley.
