Question, please help.....

I have not seen this documentary but I am very interested in showing some of it to my 4th grade class. I am going to read them a story about the life of Lou Gehrig. I would guess that his famous "luckiest man" speech would be featured somewhere in this documentary. If this is true, which volume should I rent for class? Thank you very much for your help.

The part you are looking for is in part 5 which is called 'Shadow Ball' and focuses between 1930-1940.

It's somewhere near the end. It has the "luckiest man on the face of the earth" part of the speech along with his closing, but if you are looking for the speech in its entirety it does not exist according those who know better than I do. The famous parts are there though.

Thank you very much for the response. I really appreciate it.

You can find transcripts of the speech online however.

I realize this was three years ago but I hope the teacher previewed the doc first. While a doc about baseball is unlikely to have anything objectionable, the whole series has some sensitive racial language and attitudes that could open up a whole different discussion in a 4th grade class. My kids (2nd and 5th grade) have seen it but I have taken the time to explain to them how wrong the racial attitudes that prevailed in early America were.
