Great catch, but was it really worthy of Bob Kostas' slobbering, hero-worshipping praise?

From what I've read, many contemporary observers felt that Richie Ashburn of the Phillies covered more CF ground than Mays, as had Dom DiMaggio (retired 1953), plus Curt Flood and Jim Landis, who came up a couple years later.
