No Koreans in a show about Koreans

Do any of you even realize that Margaret Cho is the only Korean on the show? Do you realize that all Asians are NOT alike? They have different languages and different cultures but when they come to the US suddenly they're all labeled the same. Compound that with the animosity they have towards one another and the question of "Asian identity" on the show is downright silly.

Asian Americans must have thought it was some kind of sick joke to have a Japanese father and a Chinese mother in a show about a Korean girl. That's a big reason why I didn't like the show. The casting was simply ridiculous! If the casting was meant to be funny and a commentary on how Asians are treated all alike in the US, it would be hilarious - but it's not. We were really supposed to believe that this was a family of Korean descent! pffft Pat Morita had a shortlived sitcom in the 70s where they actually hired Japanese actors. It's not that difficult!

I would love to know what the actors thought of this. I love Clyde Kusatsu, Amy Hill and B.D. Wong so of course I'm glad they got the work, but it must be a slap in the face at the same time for them to be so easily accepted by Americans as something they're not - especially when it has nothing to do with their acting ability. Jodi Long is doing it again now that she's on Sullivan and Son. I'm pretty sure the other actors on there are all of Korean descent except for her. She's Chinese and Japanese - not Korean at all. If it pays the bills...

The people you idolize wouldn't like you.

Yes, everyone realized the casting issues and hated the show. Americans are intelligent enough to tell tge differemce among Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans which is one of the reasons this show tanked. It is funny how Americans are judged by terrible sitcoms that no Americans watch and get cancelled right away.
