Wong Fei-hung?

Why did they decide to have another Jet Li movie using the character name Wong Fei-hung? (The same name used in Once Upon a Time in China?) Is it relating to the trilogy? or just for some light hearted fun with no explanation?

Thanks for any replies.

Wong Fei-Hung is a legendary character in Chinese Folklore. Son of Wong Chi-Ying, Fei-Hung followed his father's footsteps in martial arts and became a powerful martist artist. His school, Po Chi Lam, is highly recognized by many people and Wong Fei-Hung also treated people with illnesses while helping the revolutionary army against Manchuria and foreign armies that attempt to exploit and corrupt China. He's the equivalent of Robin Hood and there have been many films (over 200, IIRC) that feature the Wong Fei-Hong character... and the character has been portrayed by many Chinese actors (Jet Li and Jackie Chan for example).

Wong Fei-hung is a folk hero of China, he really existed. 1847-1924. There are tons of movies with Wong Fei-hung. Jackie Chan played him too.
The only thing consistent and true to the actual person is the acupuncture and chinese medicine for wich he was known for.
