NC-17 or R version?

Not sure which version I saw, can anyone tell me the difference in the two? The one I saw had nudity with both main characters and some sex scenes (albeit weird) but I couldn't really tell why it would get an NC-17 rating.

To tell u the truth I'm not sure why this got an NC-17 rating either. I thought it might be because of male nudity but there's only one brief frontal shot. I heard that the scene where Rochester has sex with the girl standing up against the wall was considered too strong for the R rating. It isn't THAT bad but the MPAA usually gets nervous with sex scenes. "Shame" didn't deserve the NC-17 rating either but it had simulated sex scenes so it got it.

I watched them simultaneously, and they don't split until the vagina-fondling on 52th minute where I decided to cease the pointless comparison

Can anyone point to a specific scene or scenes that identify whether you are seeing the original NC-17 version or the edited R version? They both have the same run time (98 minutes) and according to IMDB, there is only a few seconds difference. But I can't find any description of what is different.

I can't stand edits for prudishness, so I'd like to make sure I can see the full version.
