What it lacks in character development it tries to make up for in sex;

but fails oh-so-miserably. I pretty much agree with this reviewer:

This movie takes a great, rich, wonderful novel and reduces it to the level of near soft porn. So much time is spent on silly, pointless nude scenes that the plot has to be severely condensed. Major plot points seem to happen suddenly, without context or explanation and characters are poorly developed And the nude scenes aren't even very good, they were just cheesy - after the second or third time Rochester and Antoinette stripped, I was laughing out loud.

No sex scene in the history of cinema had me in stitches like the ones depicted in this awful excuse for a movie.

Well, I am not too fond of these erotic films, I prefer tamer stuff than compare to this. I only saw it honestly to see a younger Nathaniel Parker since I like him and his acting a lot. Like I said in another thread on here, this movie was alright but I think it would have been great if Nathaniel continued on with the role of Mr. Rochester, then we would have seen a great version of "Jane Eyre" and we could forget about the sex in this. A nice romantic (can be intense) tragic film is better imho.

while i have not read the novel, i found this movie to be abysmal. the review you posted is exactly right. why bother with such things as plot or character development when sex scene after sex scene will certainly drive the masses to view this awful excuse of a movie as you so accurately described it? right. the only redeeming quality this movie had were the scenery and sets.

i take the word of those who have read the novel that it is excellent. however, it is an embarrassment that this movie is linked to charlotte bronte and her fabulous jane eyre in even the loosest way.
