Where the Rivers Flow North

This is one of my favorite movies. The acting is superb and believable, the setting is beautiful and I loved the music by the Horseflies. It's not what I consider a "blockbuster" type movie, but more of a sleeper. There is something about this movie that simply compels me to watch it every so often. I categorize this with Winter People with Kurt Russell and Kelly McGillis, another quiet movie that ranks high on my list.

This is one of my favorite movies to re-visit, also. May be because the human stuggle to maintain dignity in the face of de-humanizing factors. A friend of mine gifted me with a tape after she saw the premier release in CO, in '94.
Cardinal won the "Red Feather" award which is, as I understand it, the Native American "Academy Award". Anything with Rip Torn gets my attention, now.
If you have not yet discovered "Heartland" with him and Conchata Ferrell, it is quality and evokes a time and place just as strongly.

I also enjoyed this movie. It's very realistic and not over the top. The scenarios are feasible, and there was decent character development without a bunch of CGI action sequences. Great scenery and a window into our past.

I've had a strong yearning to see this gem again, ever since my last viewing must have been around 1995. It's just been unforgettable. Why the hell can't it ever get re-aired on any of the HD-movies channels? This broadcasting black-hole happens to so many great, yet obscure and under appreciated films like W.t.R.F.N.
