In the film, the fat detective once suggested to Jill that the stranger was a locksmith (in addition to being a ventriloquist). A locksmith with the proper set of tools would be able to pick a lock of the deadbolt type in minutes (a spring lock would be much, much easier). I once lost a whole bunch of home keys and so I know. It would cost you a lot! With three deadbolts, I suspect it would be cheaper to break down and then replace the whole door if you lose the only set of keys.

The cop says that its not difficult to open a lock if one knows what they're doing. But this takes privacy, as it takes a good while I'd imagine.
