whats up with the hands? why did the girl need new hands anyway? ... some one has got to know the answer

I am guessing that he amputated her hands and then started killing people and taking their hands, each victim getting older as to correspond to correct hand size for his daughter. Sick bastard.

But I don't understand how the mother died, and why the boy twin was put away while the girl twin was kept...
On the death record, it states that the mother had severe hemorrhages from the uterus and cervix, and that the female twin had severe deformities of the hands. Somewhere on there, was something about a cleft palate as well. The male twin was probably institutionalized because he witnessed the first transplant, and was traumatized by it. Didn't the movie state he came there around age 5? I think the father was trying to replace his dead wife with his daughter. Hence, the piano...
shareits amazing how now they can actually do hand re-attachments in medicine! but they couldnt when they made this movie so that would be why once she was given the hands of the murdered girls they were virtually useless until in the end when they are put into nerve splints to regain tendon functions. therefor regaining the ability to use her hands...such a great ending.
There are many good movies but there are very few GREAT movies
