Would be PERFECT if...

This would be my definition of perfection if 2 things were different.

1. Angela Bassett's hulk arms. Tina was not a body builder. Super distracting.

2. Redubbing the songs. Tina rerecorded all the songs for the film, and 1990s Tina and 1960s Tina have very different voices. The actual recordings from Ike & Tina are so much more raw and powerful than the weird redubs that lack the energy she had then (rightly so, as she was older and had obviously been through stuff)...I'm sure this was more distracting to me than the average viewer, as I'm a huge fan of the music they made together...at least before 1970.

Other than those two (admittedly) minor details, this film is an amazing showcase for both Bassett and Fishburne. Also the costumes and sets are extremely well done. Deserved the Oscars it was nominated for.

Angela made Tina look too unattractive. Her teeth, her bulked up arms made Tina look masculine. I think Angela is a good actress but looked nothing like Tina. Very odd choice. Plus her skin was much darker than Tina's.
