Basset looks like SHE could beat up Ike, messes the "victim" theme

I mean, can anyone here deny that standing toe to toe, Basset was fit enough to not only pass for a prettier Serena Williams but to easily mess up Fishbourne (who played Ike)?

I mean, come on! She looked like an American Gladiator contestant. And with Fishbourne looking all slender and out of shape, it just wasn't believable that such weakling could so easily abuse and beat down such well built bulked up woman.

I don't criticize Basset (she nailed the role, great actress, thank heaven she and not Janet got the role), but her arms were simply too well built for the role (couldn't she tone it down for the movie? NO woman gets those arms by accident).

Agreed!!!!

I totally agree. Surprised producers allowed Angela to get away with that. In addition, Angela looks nothing like Tina Turner.

Neither did Lawrence resemble or even have the frail AND weak build of the actual Ike Turner... Ike was so small you could blow him into a lake with a sneeze.

Angela couldn't pass for Tina in the least bit... Not even her voice impression was solid enough... Way too buff and ripped especially in the bicep/tricep department... Tina was very curvy and had extraordinary full BEAUTIFUL legs... Which is something she was praised for having... Angela had chicken legs... She was also much darker than Tina too.

This might come off odd, but the actress who played Tinas mother had more identical features than Bassett.

I thought that too. Her and Angela were about the same age so I'm sure she could've played the part plus Jenifer Lewis is a singer and dancer in real life.

Well to be fair love tends to make one hold back from even an abuser. but yeah if they were two strangers Angie surely may have knocked him out ha.
