Of course, they would, although right now the rage is is remakes and marvel comics. If you want a good story like this, read a book.

I'm more wondering if they would accept easily someone pretending to have a disability. Maybe now they are advocating for real disabled people to "tell their stories".
It's weird how now people are almost not allowed to actually represent.
Personally I think this is still Leonardo’s best performance and I agree with your sentiment that actors should be allowed to play people different from themselves, be that disabled, gay, trans or someone of a different nationality.
That said, there’s something also to be said for giving roles to people actually from those groups. The Peanut Butter Falcon comes to mind for me as a movie that really benefited by having someone with Down’s syndrome act in that role. Zack Gottsagen was excellent in that movie.
