where do they sleep after the fire?

So there they are, homeless, and next thing it's a year later and Gilbert and Arnie are still in Endora and his sisters are just leaving for Despite Moines. Where have they been staying?

Must've seen this movie at least 20 times and it finally dawned on me that they could've been squatting at Mary Steenburgen's house. She left for St. Louis, probably didn't sell it. I'd stay there if I just burnt my house down.

"We stayed up all night dry humping, it was awful, I think she gave me poison ivy."

I think maybe they went to the older siblings' house?

What older siblings house? They all lived together.

There was an older brother named Larry. But they never said where he lived.

What Gilbert says is "I got another brother, Larry, but he got away." while the camera shows a young man in a graduation cap and gown.

I think this implies rather heavily that he went away to college and never came back. He escaped their life and that small town, which Gilbert longs to do. I find it highly unlikely that Larry would have moved back to Endora. If he had, I find it highly unlikely that he would never have the slightest contact with his family or, indeed, anybody in the town. In such a small community, that would be a never ending scandal.
