Backstage at the Aerosmith concert?

In the backstage scene at the Aerosmith concert at the beginning of the movie, Wayne and Garth have backstage passes, but they find that there's a fenced off area backstage where they cant get into. Those who can, the VIPs, have a white stripe on their backstage passes, indicating that they're allowed inside that fenced off area. Wayne and Garth's backstage passes lack this little white stripe. Making them realize that their backstage passes that they were so proud of were nothing more than promotional items almost anybody could get. They were expecting to hang out with Aerosmith only to watch the band go inside the fenced off area.

I've never been backstage to any concert and was wondering if anybody ever saw something like this themselves. Does this sort of thing happen backstage where the band breezes by the backstage pass holders only to go into a fenced off area where only the true VIPs are allowed.

I've been backstage many times because I know a lot of bands. Passes usually have a few different varieties. Entry pass, which is nothing more than a complimentary ticket and allows no backstage entry; Photo pass, which might just grant you entry to the front stage area during the performance; All access pass, which gets you entry, backstage entry, and maybe even entry into the front stage photo area depending on the venue. I've never seen separate areas backstage where certain people are allowed and certain aren't.
