Explain a line for me please

The quote section says it's: I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die? Why do they come to me to die?

But I thought it was I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again. Why do they come to me to die? Why do they come to me to die?

In my example, Ed O' Neill is asking "why do they come to me to die" which makes more sense than the other which has the voices asking that question.

Mine makes sense - Ed believes he's being tormented by dying souls but if it's meant to be them that are asking "why do they come to me to die?" then it doesn't make sense. Who are the voices referring to?

I think it's just to show how messed up that character's life (and therefore his psyche) are.

I agree with you that it makes more sense that the character is asking why "they" come to him to die, rather than the way you've punctuated the quote from the IMDb quote section. I don't know if the IMDb has access to the screenplays, but the way the line is delivered, it seems to me that it shows the torment of Ed's character asking why the souls have chosen him as the gateway to Death.

In the first Wayne's World, the same character talked about how when the Indians killed someone in the dead of winter, they thought the steam rising from the wound was the soul escaping from the body. Yeah, he's just that mess up/delusional...

Either way the intent is the same, it's just supposed to be funny and weird and it is.

I got the impression he was admitting to killing people but in his mind they are coming to him to die.

It's called dark humor, or black humor.
It's funny because the character just randomly says something completely wacked out that unexpectedly goes to a dark place for a minute in an otherwise light movie. What makes it humorous is the jarring, sudden shift in tone for only a moment. I think it's freaking hilarious.

It's not supposed to be logical or deal with the plot. It just indicates that despite simply being a coffeeshop employee, this guy is apparently psychologically disturbed, which is something you wouldn't expect.
