Only reason Bill Clinton beat George Bush was because the Clinton team conspired to talk the economy down and put the country into a recession. But hey all's fair in war and politics, right ? If you think the Republicans would do any different, then you are simply blind to the facts of political campaigns. Besides, the economy not only did not get "flushed down the toilet," it in fact thrived under the Clinton presidency. Clinton left the national budget with a fat surplus, and that money vanished in 2001.

Just imagine what a War Room-type documentary about Karl Rove's management of Dubya's 2000 and 2004 campaigns would have been like! Of course, Rove was smart enough to know what he would look like if cameras were following him around the whole time, so we'll never get to see it. Of course, like any good chef, Rove knows better than to give away his secret sauce, which alone makes him smarter than Carville.
