Tha ages of the Walton kids was wrong for this time period.

They seem to have taken up not long after they had left off in the series. They show Elizabeth being only about 20 or so in 1963 but in reality she should have been about 36. If they wanted to cover the Thanksgiving after JFK's assassination then that was fine but they should have "aged' the kids. I just found it to be distracting. And while it was good to see Ellen as grandma Walton in reality she would have been over 100 by then!

I agree. And the Baldwin sisters would have been well into their 100's as well.
This should be part of the "goofs".

Correction: They would have probably been in their 100's in the Easter reunion movie which was supposed to be 1969.

I don't think the directors of the reunion movies ever actually watched the series... or they wouldn't have screwed up timelines and ages so much.
But wouldn't you expect the actors who played these characters for all those years speak up and say that certain story lines didn't make sense?

I wish these guys would stop jumping

I agree, John Boy and Mary Ellen would have been at least late 40's, if you go by the time frame of the original series.

The 1997 tv reunion movie made no sense either. It was set in 1969, and John and Olivia were celebrating their "40th" anniversary. That would made them practically newlyweds when the original series began. I can't believe none of the actors questioned this when filming was underway.

And Mary Ellen had other children in this movie, but I don't remember any mention of John Curtis or where he was. Did I miss something?

I spent some time thinking the same thing (especially for Grandma and The Baldwin Sisters, who, as noted would well have been in their 100's) and then just gave up and enjoyed the show.

reply

Ha, as far as the Baldwin sisters went, maybe there was some magical quality in "the recipe" that extended their life.

The Baldwin sisters probably wouldn't have been "well into their 100s" in 1963. The series often suggested they were about the same age as Grandpa (he certainly considered them his contemporaries) and Grandpa's headstone read "1865-1941" in "The Empty Nest", so Miss Mamie and Miss Emily were probably in their late 90s. All this ignores that John said Grandpa had been gone only 15 years, of course. This reunion seems to be in some alternate universe where the 1950s never existed.

would have made more sense if they were celebrating 60 years.....or even 50..yeah.......that means that she would have been pregs with john boy when she got married...lol....

reply

what i never got was the line where john says pa you've been gone 15 years now......how does he get 15 when on zeb's tomb stone it says 1941....i remember that, they said, you never got to see pearl harbour......or something like that...

yet it's only 15 years from 1941 to 1963....who did the math...

I obviously never saw this movie but it proves what I always suspected. The Waltons were Alien beings from another planet. Goodnight John boy.
