One of the greatest comedies I've ever seen

Just wanted to say that I watched this movie like ten years ago, and I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF from the beginning to the end of the film. I have to say, also, that I watched the dubbed version in spanish (I'm from Argentina and it was on cable. Usually I don't watch dubbed movies, I prefer subtitles) and the voice-actors did an excellent job.

I think Les Visiteurs is on my top 10 of comedies, and I'm surprised that this board isn't filled with threads about the greatness of this movie. Maybe is not as popular as I thought it was.

Whatever. Cheers from Argentina.
Excuse my english.

NO NO don't say that.
it IS one of the most enjoyable movies...

especially when Jacquasse says "vive la revolucion"!!!!!!!

I'll second that. I watched the movie a few years ago on a french channel. The movie really is hillarious! It's a marvelous treat. One of the best comedies I've seen.

Well, I watched it a few months ago, subtitled, and guess what.. still funny as hell.
I would say that Les Visiteurs is on my top 2 comedies, and I'm a bit shocked that it gets a 6.5 score right now.

This film played at our local art museum a few months ago. I liked it so much that I brought my girlfriend along the next day to see it again and she loved it too. This evening I saw a new film called "Avenue Montaigne" and recognized Valerie Lemercier who we liked so much in "Les Visiteurs". She is a great comic talent (we loved Jean Reno & Christian Clavier as well).

I watched the subtitled version, I really loved it! Especially i thought it was genius for a 1993 movie! I can't help but thinking that IF a king and his servant accidentaly ended up in the 21st century, this is exactly what would happen. I'm so glad its not like the usuall American movie where probably everything would be too over exaggerated and probably gross. I loved it :))) Oh and I thought the actors did reeealllly good!

I saw this movie last night. It was late, and I was debating if I should go to bed or watch some tv, and I came across it while channel hopping. After a few minutes I thought this was an incredibly stupid movie...but then like a train wreck, I couldn't stop watching it...and surprisingly I laughed out loud at several scenes. It doesn't make sense to me but somehow the movie really did make me laugh a lot...I suppose because it was so ridiculous and silly and didn't take itself too seriously so it was ok that it was like that...
Anyway, the only actor I recognized was Jean because I saw him in "the professional". I'm not used to seeing him in a comedic role..but he did a pretty good job at it :0

I saw this film about 5 years ago and still remember it as one of the funniest films I ever saw.

I must agree to kalm77, it wasnt that funny, but very enjoyable. Christina Applegate is one great actor, she has it all, good looking, funny, serious etc. Without her I dont think I wouldnt enjoy the movie at all.

reply

Hun I think you are reffering to "Just Visiting" as opposed to "Les Visiteurs". Whoa what a difference! "Les Visiteurs" was how "Just Visiting" came to be, and I must say the knock-off does not even compare to the original.

(the post guy when they attack his van) 'Mais ce sont des malades!' Hilarious!

well, if Americans rate it, what can you expect... It is a great European movie

Yanks are stupid. They find The 40 Year Old Virgin funny, and I've seen more comical things come out of my ar*e to be quite blunt.

Haha.

But Les Viseteurs on the other hand, oh my God, I watched it for the first time ever last night/early this morning on BBC4, and it's brilliant. BRILLIANT! I love European films, and I hate how people are always put off by the fact they're foreign and are subtitled. Lazy sh*ts they are, not being arsed to read them at the bottom. Why did God give them eyes when they're not watching this film and reading the subs and being opened up to such a fantastic film?!

Ok--ayyyyyy? :)

Hey, look at the top-rated movies here at IMDB and tell me this site isn't dominated by young American men who like a lot of action and don't like to think too awfully hard...! Subtitles probably automatically constitute a 1 or 2 point demerit.

This from an old fart American male.

My favorite movie from my childhood, I remember watching it nearly 20 times when I was a kid. French comedies and probably comedies in general don't get any better than that, "Le dîner de cons" being a close contender.

Just saw this on a netflix trip, very funny and well done movie. I dig Jean Reno in almost anything but he was spot on in this.

I must say that I disagree wholeheartedly with the view of everybody on this thread.

It started reasonably well, with the medieval scenes and the car scene bringing some decent laughs (even if the beheading part seemed a giant copy of Monty Python and the Holy Grail). However, from there it seemed to descend into a stew of mediocre slapstick comedy.

The problem is the writing; it is pretty much a few people shouting at each other and 'Cousin Hubert's' endless claims that he is who he is; surely he would have realised that they don't know who he is? Granted, oh-kkkkkaaaayyyy is funny along with Reno's use of exclamatives at the end of the film, but that is not enough to lift it from being a pretty dull film.

Who can spy on the spies?
