Was this a true story?

I watched a documentary and it was about a women that supposively had fallen off a horse and hit her head off a stone, it was in actual fact her new husband that had actually killed her by injecting her with a paralysing drug and smacking her head off the stone, is the story is based on this?

Yes this was a TRUE story. It happened in Late July 1980 in Hillsdale Michigan. The TV Movie sucked. There is ascene where David Davis goes and picks up his "girlfriend" after Shannon's funeral, and there are PALM TREES seen in the background.
I'm sorry, but you will not find a Palm Tree in Toledo Ohio (except the Zoo) where David supposedly picks this chick up. Also, there is a scene where Lucille goes to the funeral home and talks to the lady there. Well, the lady happens to be the owner of the funeral home in Toledo where the funeral took place and in the movie is depicted (and never named) as being a Brunette when she is a sandy blonde. Also, the guy playing Bob didn't really look like Bob that much, though Bonnie Bartlett captured Lucille's fiestiness pretty well.

They also changed the name of the town and the way they have the "characters" talk to the "audience" was stupid. I wish a far better movie would be made about this story, as it is fascinating.

So, how do I know it's true? Shannon is my 2nd cousin. Her father is my mom's first cousin, and this shocked and rocked our family. We still talk about it today. But overall, this movie sucked. It was based on the format of "Unsolved Mysteries" and this story was the most incredible one to date on that show.

David is in prison for life in Michigan, and is always denied appeals.

You always see at the start of a movie that the story is BASED on ACTUAL EVENTS. Name one movie where every minute detail was exactly as was the story the movie was based on and I will give you 100 million dollars.

Most movies are filmed in LA sometimes yes they are filmed in other places. There are certain proceedures movie companies go through in order to film a movie on location. It could have been that they couldn't hammer out a deal,

Who cares if there were palm trees in the funeral scene's backround?

Who cares if the funeral home director had brown hair in real life but in the movie had sandy blonde hair is this relevant to the story? NO

I remember when that story aired on Unsolved Mysteries. I also remember the update when they caught the guy.

I believe that Shannon's parents & siblings would be very upset if they knew of your unhealthy obsession with her. What's the deal with blaming Shannon for not curing aids.

Yep, true story. See ypurself:

Yes, this is a true story. My uncle, Dick Britton, was portrayed by an actor in this movie. My uncle is the person who leased farm land to David Davis, and also the person who Davis came running to, stating that Shannon had "fallen". (NOTE: The actor looked NOTHING like my uncle!)

Who cares if the guy playing your uncle didn't look like him?

It was just a point of interest (or so I thought). Sorry if it didn't do anything for you.

Shannon went to Nursing school in jackson, michigan, I think she was 2 years ahead of me. And that women from "The Burning Bed?" She ws one year ahead of me...weird.

I am not revealing my name to protect the innocent.

You are right Michigan gym, the actor who played Dick Britton in the movie looked nothing like him because I have seen the real Dick Britton your Uncle on American Justice, Unsolved Mysteries and forensic files about the Shannon Mohr Davis case.

Years ago, I was watching Unsolved Mystery I re-call this episode. Narrator stated, how David, gotten away with a perfect crime. Family of Shannon Wasn’t going to put this to rest until a justice was served. He was caught after being on the run for 9 years. Unfortunately, I find it, to be sad, that someone would prey on venerable person. She had just come out of a fail relationship. I believe she was looking to be love and cared for. She married this guy within 2 months, which she hardly knew. This character was lying from the very start. When she began to have doubts it was too late. Usually in these types of situations; people preys on the weak and venerable all the times. It doesn’t make it right, but they do. Majority of lifetime movies are inspire on true events that actual happen. Another lifetime movie I believe you would find interesting is Lethal Vows: Starting John Ritter.
