A Very Underrated Masterpiece

This movie was Awesome! to Hell with the stupid narrow minded critics who panned this movie. It's a good film that has unfortunately become a lost diamond. Try it and you wont be disappointed!

No. This movie was really bad.

Wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but I do think it's a little underrated. I enjoy it, but people probably hate it because of the new "happy" ending as opposed to the original film's ending.

Don't know about masterpiece, but the film was definitely better than people generally give it credit for. Due to director and editing, the suspense level and was great!

Apparently the Dutch version is very good, this was not.

Its that man again!!

Agreed. Far from being a masterpiece but it's a very tense above the average thriller from the 90's. The original ending is better and more meaningful but I think the remake ending suits this version. Doesn't bother me at all.

I wouldn't say this remake is a masterpiece. I saw the original Dutch film a few years ago and the remake recently. I like them both, each on their own merits. I prefer the happy ending to the remake, especially Rita's plucky attitude and brains.

I agree; I think its a solid remake, and honestly I think I actually like it better than the original; What wins me over for this one is Jeff Bridges appropriately creepy and understated performance (still one of the most underrated actors in the world, imo), and the ending; I know most seem to hate the ending because it is "happier" than the Dutch version, but to be honest although I like the other ending as well, I think this one works better, as there's more going on in the finale, and I like how Rita ends up tricking Barney into thinking she has his daughter in the same predicament (also liked how Keifer's character is a much more likeable one than the guy in the original film, as is Rita). I also really liked Rita's spunky attitude and no-nonsense demeanor (her Dutch counterpart comes off too much like a wallflower).

It was amusing in a cheesy sort of way, but certainly not a masterpiece.
