Am I the only person who understands this movies greatness?

Lindsey Montgomery

I loved this movie! Its a great comedy, except for the cop with and annoying voice. The guy called Muerte(Morty) was hillarious. Does anyone agree with me? Anyone at all?

reply

I am 100% with you. This is a gem. Perfect to rent or Netflix and watch on a lazy Sunday.

Finally, someone with taste. I thought I was the only one. The reason I loved this movie was because the characters were almost never serious, even when they had a gun in their face! The way they handled all of their situations was just hillarious! And Muerte was great. Why did you love it?

Finally! Someone with taste. I think this movie is so great! I mean everybody is so funny in this film. Sure, there are some cheesey moments but, hey, what can you expect. This is the kind of silly comedy that you can watch over and over again. They you can make you're friends watch it with you and then they'll watch it over and over again.

Too bad they don't make movies like they used too. I mean, I think the movie-makers of today are running short on ideas. I think it would be cool if they made a sequal for this movie. I can just immagine it... Undercover Blues: they baby's grown up. but, then again it would probably turn out like a classical crappy remake. Like I said, they don't make movies like they used to. Bummer!

reply

Just love this movie...

I specially love the fighting scenes, I can't help but laugh when I see him with the baby in his arms while fighting Morty, or when she fights Morty just after shopping, still with her shopping bags in her hand... :)

I know what you mean. The fighting scenes are hillarious, but what I really love about this movie is the acting. "Jeff and Jane" never act serious, it's great. For example in the scene where the couple are in the restaraunt and all of a sudden there are six or seven guys pointing guns at them. The conversation is as follows...

"Jeff"
"Yes dear"
"Do the oysters come with guns"
blah blah blah

bad guy: Don't make any sudden moves
Jeff: Why, is there a bee on me?
Jane: I don't see one
Jeff: What is a sudden move? I never really got that
Jane: I don't know, I think they watch too many cop shows
etc.

I just love it!

Actually, this film, when it was made, was apparently a response to the "Too bad they don't make movies like they used to" thing". Try the "goofball" comedies of the 1930s for many similarities (smart and witty and FAST respones to straight lines. Weird gangster/criminal types, there purely to be pawns and targets of the witty, smart and FAST good guys (The Thin Man films are quite good at this - but there are many others - and many of those were not crime related.

And, both my wife and I love this one - even 17 years later.

They had Netflix in 2004?

Netflix launched in 1997 - though obviously streaming services did not start until 2007. But either way yes it was around to be used for watching classic comedies such as this.

I was just saying to myself as I was scrolling towards the message board, "I like this movie, I don't care what anyone else thinks." And I said this because I mistakenly thought I would reach the message boards, and find tons of people trashing this movie eight ways to next month.

How happy I was to find my assumptions to be boiling over with wrongability.

This is one of my favorite comedies, one I don't mind watching over again - much like Groundhog Day (no pun intended). It's just so campy - anyone who didn't enjoy just didn't get it. But then, I thought Last Action Hero was a great fun, too. (now there's a much misunderstood movie)

reply

Your right "Last Action Hero" was a great spoof as well. It was misunderstood just like "Undercover Blues" has often experienced.

reply

Nope! I'm with you, Cheery. This movie's lightheartedness is welcome after the many lead-heavy movies out there. In fact I like the parts where Quaid mentions the cliches of thrillers. Also like you I think Last Action Hero is far better than its reputation--thanks to those heavy-handed critics who destroyed it when it debuted.

Another aspect of this movie that makes it so watchable is all those marvelous leg shots of Kathleen Turner. Hey! I'm just a guy, okay? Grrr...:)

I like late 80's/early 90's movies like this.

Light, breezy setting, lots of snappy dialogue, and solid acting (everyone played their part more or less perfectly).

Not a laugh-out-loud comedy, but good for a lot of "heh-hehs".

My family must have watched this movie over a 100 times (actually watching it now !!!) - its a perfect movie to just sit & enjoy when there is nothing on tv or you just feel like laughing.

with the exception of two f-bombs, its clean enough for kids to watch. I recommend this movie often and ALWAYS was thanked for doing so. I remember when this came out at the movies, and I'm glad I did not see it (thought it looked stupid) because now I appreiciate this movie even more.

I know exactly what you mean i first saw this movie when it came out and that was 12 years ago and i am still watching. It has to be one of my favourite movies. Any movies that are made nowadays who try to do the same thing just loose the comedy of it. i would give this movie at least a 10/10!!!!

Wow! and I thought I was the only one who actualy counts this movie as a favorite. The comedy in this movie is classic and the tone is terrific. also, anyone who thinks differently should be beaten; forty lashes with wet noodle! Please excuse my irratating sense of humor. Thank you and have a nice day.

This movie is also one of my family's favorite movies. Dennis Quaid and Stanley Tucci are histerical. I think that some people don't like this movie because they can't appreciate movies that they can't take seriously.

reply

I also love this movie! I loved it when I first saw it, years back. It's funny, light, and entertaining. Stanley Tucci is fantastic as 'Muete!' Gotta love The Tucc. (Yes, The Tucc, as my mother affectionately calls him.) ^_^

reply

I'm glad you enjoy this movie as much as I do. Unfortunately, you got Tucci's movie name wrong though. His name, in the movie, is Muerte, which is spanish for death. He's so hillarious in this movie and adds such comedy. This movie is one of my favorites, definately.
