I'm a big fan of Studio Ghibli,and Whisper of the Heart was one of my reasons to see this movie,but i was left with big disappointment. There was absolutely no moral in this story whatsoever,the movie was rude,it was ugly and rude,uninteresting. I didn't care about any of the characters,they were just plain boring and pretentious,suprisingly. The girl was a freaking b!tch,if she were a guy she would make a great douchebag,even with all her reasons,divorcing and stuffs...,and the guy was pretty dumb to actually fell in love with such human being.

I agree. She was manipulative and selfish through and through, and didnt seem to really care about anyone else but herself(other than what they could do for her). she simply was just very unpleasant and unlikeable.

I have to disagree. I'm a huge Ghibli fan, and this film was awesome. So different from their usual stuff, because they assigned the younger members of the studio to create something quickly, cheaply, and with quality. It held my attention throughout, had realistic characters who weren't perfect, and was not predictable. Also, it had a couple laugh out loud jokes near the end!

As for the girl acting like a bitch, remember she's was just a teen who had went through her parents messy divorce, moving away from everything and everyone she knew, and being a total outcast at her new school.

Ocean Waves centers around youthful indiscretions. The characters are not meant to be likeable as they are experiencing things that they will only learn from later, which is the case by the end.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.
