The Music throughout this film

God! Did anyone else notice how "out of it" the music in this film was compared to most other Ghibli Films? Maybe its just me but it did feel somewhat different and even had an affect (not in a bad way of course) on the film. Who was the composer?

The music is absolutly incredible.

As you said it was so original that it completly stood out and remains one of my favourite anime soundtracks and movies.

According to AnimeNewsNetwork, the composer was Shigeru Nagata.

reply

Agreed; this is one of my favorite Ghibli soundtracks.

The music is really calming. Just like looking at real ocean waves.

Best thing ever.

Well one audio track I like in particular is the track played when both Taku and Rikako are on the plane to Tokyo.

reply

Yeah. It conjures up the ideas of bitter-sweet memories. Except the section on the station which is up beat and hopeful. I'd love to get the OST. Looks like another import job.

The play list is as follows and the 1st and rerelease catalog codes.

I though I was the only one impressed by that.
One of the less obvious film scores I have heard. Very original, but at the same time discreet and in a good taste.
It really adds something to an already good film.

The score is amazing! Not to mention catchy. :)

I always catch myself paying attention to the music more than the movie itself - but that's because I've watched the movie so many times.

I'm glad someone mentioned the music. It really is one of the best things about this film. It reminds me of the scenes from the movie and the bittersweet memories from my school years. One of the best soundtracks I've ever heard!

For any others out there who also love the soundtrack: I've recently done a solo classical guitar cover of the ending theme (Umi ni Naretara) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7L-a7sX_-w

Your rendition is gorgeous. I left a comment. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely loved the soundtrack. Would cherish owning a copy as every piece was magnificent.
