Lloyd and Buscemi

The subplot about the two drifters/robbers is brilliant. It could have been its own full length movie. Amazing acting and chemistry between Steve Buscemi and Christopher Lloyd.

Totally agree! It was brilliant!

yeah i second that, i loved it, so funny and brilliant, especially when we find out he was just using him all along, and when he just shoots him, gets out of the car, and gets on the bus, which just happens to be right there, classic..

Both these actors are so very underrated, that putting them together in a skit could only result in a brilliant performance. To see Lloyd underplay a role after going over-the-top in so many other roles, is just magnificent.

I think that made the movie I was hoping it could of been longer

Think Lloyd always planned to shoot Buschemi?

Ohhh...Mr. Greenfield!

reply

Personally, I don't. Remember, although he didn't hesitate to fire, he really did not want to shoot the clerk (and clearly aimed for a spot not likely to be lethal).

Further, my take was that while he was certainly willing to use the up-and-coming criminal I thought he really wanted to teach him (recall the "Life Lessons").

reply

It didn't look like Lloyd's character planned on shooting Buscemi's.

reply

I fully agree. If he intended to kill him all along, it's hard to believe he would have provided him with a loaded firearm (and a more lethal one than his own pistol at that).

Christopher Lloyd is a very good dramatic actor, it's too bad he's been too typecast in comedic roles. If you liked him & Steve Buscemi in this movie, also see Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead.

If I ever go down, I hope I don't get the Potato Judge.

Yeah, thanks - you know, I thought of spoiling it for everyone, too. But I decided it was better to let people watch the films themselves to find out what happens.

I too wish this subplot had been a central story. It was so great. Both leads worked so well together and Lloyd was wonderfully creepy and restrained.

What do you think the purpose of looking nice would be when committing armed robberies? Especially when both these guys had no Balaclavas to hide their faces.

reply

Yes, I agree. Such an interesting subplot and one with a decent twist, I thought Lloyd in particular was terrific.

Cool.

It's my favorite segment in the film. I loved the radical contrast between Christopher Lloyd's soft-spoken buttoned down professional and Steve Buscemi's more antsy and scruffy punk amateur. Moreover, it was great to see Lloyd underplay it for a change in a meaty dramatic role.

I've been chasing grace/ But grace ain't easy to find
