What was happening to Clarence when he was talking to Elvis?

Was he experiencing a psychotic episode? Was he blacking out? At the hotel everyone was yelling and shooting but he was just chatting away with Elvis. What do you think?

Mild schizophrenia would be my guess. Anyone who talks to an hallucination of Elvis or asks a hooker to marry them the night they meet isn't playing with a full deck.

I use the term 'talk to Elvis' when I have to use the washroom. Like when were hanging out at the bar. I'll say to my friends, "I gotta go talk to Elvis" and make the 'hand sign' thing Elvis used to do. The idea was inspired by this movie.
