WHAT? 4.4?

I used to adore this movie as a child and i was browsing through names of the videos I had from when I was a child and came across A Troll In Central Park and thought.. Hey! Wonder what it's score was on IMDB.com and I was absoutely mortified when I got here to discover the score! WTF?

This movie is excellent. I know I was older then 5 or 6 when I watched it. It was something my Mum always put on for me when I was sick home from school to cheer me up- and cheer me up it did!

This movie is a masterpiece! Right up there with Snow White and Bambi as far as I am concerned. Meh... what's wrong with people these days?

Stanley is an excellent role model for all children who want the world to be all happy and green, unlike those bad trolls who want to be mean and make the world a dirty place...

I loved this movie growing up. It definatly deserves higher than a 4.3

I disagree with MetFanMac. People either love good movies or dislike bad ones thats the point. You don't either love Bluth movies or hate Bluth movies you choose the best of what he does and enjoy. Don Bluth is an outstanding animator/ Director/Producer. I personally love his work. On some ocassions his work is way below par such as A Troll In Central Park, Pebble & The Penquin but don't forget his genius with such films as Banjo The Woodpile Cat, An American Tail, The Secret Of Nimh, All Dogs Go To Heaven. You need to remember that Bluth does not have the backing of major studios on the majority of ocassions. He makes a film and sells it to a distributor. This lack of money has affected him recently but when backed by a studio such as Fox he has produced two fabulously colourful and intricately animated masterpieces Anastasia & Titan A.E..And backed by Amblin he produced An American Tail and Spielberg/Lucas The Land Before Time two superb pieces that still live on today in their umpteen sequels (low grade TV animation, but it keeps the originals alive) I love Don Bluths work just not all of it.

No, I actually agree with MatFanMac about either loving ot hating Don Bluth movies.

My dad, for some reason, hates them. However, my uncle loves them.
Don't know why. They have a very similar taste in movies, but that's just the way things roll sometimes.

I like them a lot. They're so pretty and fluid...

We can't stop here. This is bat country!

You cant genralise based on a directors complete catalog you have to take it movie by movie. For example I love James Cameron's Terminator , True Lies but cannot abide Titanic but loved Ghosts of the Abyss. You either love a film or do not its as simple as that.

I'm making a big generalization and I don't care - whoever gave this film a low score has to be shallow, b/c this movie is maybe the warmest, purest animated movie I have watched (still not my favorite, but one of). Great characters, good story, wonderful messages, wonderful score.

Oh heartbreak and despair got nothing but boring
So I grabbed you baby like a wild pitch

I think it deserves 4.4 out of 10 because I'm a Don Bluth viewer and that was the worst he ever did! Seriously! I watched it for about 5 minutes and and immediatly turned it off! I was like... jeez I'm out of here this is trash. If you're a Don Bluth fan watch The Secret of Nimh, All Dogs Go to Heaven, or The Pebble and the Penguin. Those ones have reason.

Or they could just have a different opinion from you.

I liked many of Don Bluth's other movies, but not this one.

Mur?

I saw many Don Bluth animated films, and they're all great. I remember enjoying this one. By the way, was it him who made Thumbelina??

reply

To be rather frank, this movie sucks.

Just about every aspect of it is bad.

Don Bluth has made some great movies, but this is definitely one of his worst.

reply

I like this movie, but this ain't my favorite Don Bluth film. I give it 6/10. If you're looking for a great Don Bluth film, check out The Land Before Time (1988). That movie is in my top 130.

Volker Flenske: (While torturing David) I don't know why you're doing this to yourself!

You're right, Cheeky Charm. This movie doesn't deserve a 4.4. It deserves a 3.4, or below.

This movie is bad, and this is coming from a man who is a both an animation and Don Bluth enthusiast.

Troll in Central Park is definitely one of the weaker Don Bluth movies. It is redeemed by a very good voice cast and some nice music, but the story is below par and the animation does give you a headache at times. I gave it a 6/10, and I think the rating which is now 5.1 is fairly decent. Although there are redeeming qualities it is definitely forgettable compared to Secret of Nimh, American Tail, Land Before Time and Pebble and the Penguin(which is one or two flaws, but I love the film). So just because you have nostalgic memories for the movie, it deserves a good score? Nostalgia is never a good basis for judging anything, especially childhood nostalgia.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

Don't worry. You can make the movie's score rise with nothing but the power of your dreams!
