Okay, this may sound sick. But does anyone have any pics of the infamous "lion" scene? Or could they obtain some?

reply

I agree completely. I know most won't agree, but, if you are dumb enough to do something like that then you deserve what you get along with your Darwin Award.

Namaste, and good luck.

Does anyone have any pics, though?

Thats the actual video i think

reply

Is that the video where the the film maker cuts to the family members and the back to the man who went out of the car to film the lions? As far as i know, that is fake.

reply

that video is probably mostly real. there are some sick people in the world, why cant someone glance ove at the screaming family for a second to catch their reaction? i dont understand why that is not plausible. but that was pit durnet being eaten by lions. he died on february 18, 1975.

reply

The video is generally regarded as real. The fake debate comes from two issues:

1. It was originally from the Mondo film Savage Man Savage Beast, which was made during the time that Mondo films were notorious for having staged scenes.

2. The cuts and some movements may point to the footage being fake.

However, most professional opinions I've read say that the footage is most likely real.

...I know about that. I own the film AND uploaded the full lion sequence onto YouTube. Your personal opinion of one word is NOT an argument.

The Pit Durnetz footage is real, and was spliced up by the insurance company for the lawsuit that followed their declined in paying up the life insurance Pit had. It was filmed from several Super 8 cameras tourists had.

gotta love the mondo films, no one can tell for sure whats real and what's not.

I say it is fake.

Watch how how after the lions jump on the guy, the camera is moving, and you can see the patrol vehicle in the back...according to the camera guy, they're not there yet. Than suddenly the car comes in to scare the lions away :)

For being fake, this is pretty well filmed anyway

its 100% fake i have a old issue of Bizarre that goes in to lots of details(how they faked it).I'm to lazy to check but they might have the article on there website

it is very obviously fake. it's stolen from the movie "savage man, savage beast" in which other scenes are fake as well. you can tell it's fake due to the fact that it goes into the "cannibal holocaust"-like shakey camera, constantly changing angles and blurry quality as soon as the action kicks in. you never see the lions biting the man or really attacking him while he's moving. you just see them eating meat out of a dummy. also, if a lion was attacking and killing someone in front of you, and instead of helping, you chose to sit and film it, would you try to get some good shots of the other people watching the man get eaten, or would you watch what's actually happening?
a single shot of the man moving and being eaten by the lions never lasts more than like a second, the way it's edited, clearly to hide it's fake.

reply

if people think the lion scene is fake...
there are lots of other real lion eating men movies around!!!
haha awesome to see arogant stupid people trying to mess with a lion (or any wild animals for that occasion)
and for all crying babies, this is what really goes on in the world in stead of your censorship propaganda mainstream news channel 'news'...
watch al-jazeera for *beep* sake at least they show whats really going on... (for most parts of course)

You might be able to find something on google or websites dedicated to shock material. Ogrish might have something, but I could be wrong since I haven't been there in years.

You can still find it on youtube somewhere. I was actually watching it the other day but the title is in Spanish and the video was slightly modified.

I still don't understand what would possess a man who is only armed with a camera to get out of his car and shoot in front of a pack of untamed lions. The Scene with his kids and wife screaming always get to me.

I get it up, I get it up in the dark, I make her feel I'm not a holy man

I have researched this attack in depth. The only thing that is keeping the disbelievers from allowing themselves to realize the horror of what they are watching is real is the court case in Nambia. It isn't online. I have seen it, but it is not online anymore, and with the current government situation in the country of Nambia now releasing details of this case online are the least of their worries. The other way to get the details of the court case is hard(which confirm, sadly for the family, that this idiot was indeed eaten alive in front of his friends and family, as well as other tourists from other countries who filmed this from various angles)...thus giving the producer of the film the opportunity to cut it, skip the worse footage, and skip the time from the guy being torn in half to probably 30 minutes later when the lions are just chowing down on his lifeless body with the ranger jeep in the background, then cut to the rangers carrying the body away under a sheet after the lions are scared away.

After the lawsuit, the safari company briefly changed its rules and regulations putting vehicle locking mechanisms on the inner dooors and keeping guides armed. I may be mistaken, but I believe the safari club went belly up in the next decade.

It would be interseting to see the entire footage, uncut and shakey from all of the various men with super 8's.

You could've made a lot of money writing these fake descriptions for fake videos back in the days... you really missed out. :)
