Did anyone actually um...enjoy this thing?

I wouldnt call it a movie. It doesnt deserved to be called a movie. Its just a thing. I'm just curious if anyone actually likes watching this garbage and if you do, please explain to me why because I am at a loss. This is the sickest *beep* I have ever even imagined seeing in my LIFE.

Well if any of the scenes in it had been narrated properly it might have been worth knowing what happened in some of the them. But in its current editing its crap.

Your signature is "Wiggle your Big Toe", so I guess you liked Kill Bill.

Tell me what the diffrence is by liking Kill Bill and this movie? They both have pretty much the same amount of gore and both try to entertain. The diffrence is that Traces shows us how real it can get by staging (or using) reality-like footage.

So, If you make a realistic horror film with fake gore, is that ok and not gross?
But see a dead body on the news with less gore, that's more sick?

I think these movies are very good at maybe opening our eyes to the reality that are in horror films.

Also, this movie could have easily been faked. I mean, 95% of Faces of Death was faked. Is there a diffrence between that and Kill Bill? Yeah, some people want to question if it's fake or not while watching some movies. While others don't.

I know the diffrence, just saying that there really isn't much. Gore (real or not) in film will always be that. Gore on film. It's put up in to entertain you. Shock you, disturb you, but still, just entertain you.

And why are you calling me Einsten? Is it cause I have goofy hair? Or are you trying to be sarcastic saying that I don't know much about gore in horror films? Seeing Einsten was dead when both Kill Bill and Traces were released, I'd say that I was probably superior to Einsten's knowledge on the matter.

I find it amusing you suddenly won't come around and see the answers to your horrible post.

I haven't watched a Faces of Death or Traces of Death film for about 9 years now but I used to watch them loyally. I totally never even knew Faces of Death was fake but it did bore me. It wasn't shocking enough. Then I saw Ultimate Death and for the first time in my life, I was grossed out.

I can handle life, which means I can handle death. Some people cannot handle either so they hide and avoid seeing things like this. That's fine. Some people just can't stomach REALITY.

It's funny, I'm studying law and if I hadn't been exposed to these films at an early age, I wouldn't be able to handle tons of the stuff we look at daily. People that can't look at dead bodies or autophsies run away and puke in the bathroom but what will they do when they have to handle a real dead body?

I think you need to watch one of these films before you come around acting 13 all, wHo WaTchEs ThIs CrApOLa! EwWwWwW

These movies have affected me in ways I can't explain...it's not desensitization...no, it's something else, almost the complete opposite. Almost like frustration, being an animal rights activist, I suppose the whole of it is like seeing something helpless being tortured. You want to do something positive, you want to do something to help out that particular victim...but you can't...and with these movies, I don't even know what I'm getting all worked up about or what I could do to help random people in their completely natural (no matter how painful seeming or appalling to the viewer) demise. The feeling still lingers in the back of my mind, but I don't know who or what I'm supposed to be getting angry with.

let me start by saying that i linked to the imdb article while looking up Mondo style cinema. i'm not interested in watching this movie, whatsoever. but after reading through the comments i felt compelled to post.

i love experimental film, violent movies, gore, absurdism, over the top stuff that really 'pushes the envelope'. documentary, pseudo-documentary, dramatic and fictional...whatever. it is all cool to me. i really 'enjoy' being deeply touched or affected by a film or documentary. my interests are completely outside of the mainstream.

i get the most enjoyment from films that affect me deeply. whether those feeling are good or bad. for example, i didn't turn my head or cover my eyes during the torture scene in 'syriana' when clooney's character was having his fingernails ripped out with pliers. i REALLY wanted to, but had to force myself to watch. that scene was obviously written to illustrate the evils of whats going on in the world in REALITY and did so in a very powerful way, imho. as a movie lover, i felt it would do the film an injustice if i DIDN'T see the WHOLE thing. i wanted the whole cinematic experience and now, its burned into my memory. my palms are sweating right now, even :) as a result, i'm now much more sensitive to incidents such as the Nick Berg beheading, or any of the other journalists and aid workers who have been kidnapped by terrorists and executed. i feel that i care more now as a result or seeing that film. this is just one example, but i think you get my point.

and kill bill was awesome. simply because it was art, much like a comic book. the violence was used to add humor. and i was laughing out loud while watching it. it was damn entertaining.

real snuff footage and stuff like Traces of death (which i've gathered from my readings IS primarily real footage) only serve as a mind numbing agent. i've seen my fair share of real death/maim video clips over the years (such as the R budd suicide clip, a woman being struck by a train, a police chase that ended in a shotgun suicide on live TV, etc). the only thing i was left with was a desire to erase it from my memory. it doesn't heighten anyone's awareness of the big bad scary world or communicate anything redeeming, entertaining, or informative. it has no message...artistic, political, religious, cultural or otherwise.

before you label me as one, let me say that i'm no prude, by any stretch of the word. i like my entertainment RAW. music, movies, art, drugs, life, the whole deal. but i feel all that videos of this nature do is rob us of our ability to be entertained and affected by art and films...and day to day life. and i say 'video' because this is not a 'film' or anything artistic. it is trash.

and dude...c'mon. you know wtf was meant by the 'einstein' comment. we've all heard that before. don't get all pseudo intellectual about it just because you can't sufficiently explain yourself. it just makes you look juevenille and ignorant.

you may be the messenger, but i am the letter writer. and without letters, what good is a messenger?

reply

I would call Faces of Death artistic. Beacuse most of it's not real and it tries to make a point.

I would label Traces however, as Shock Cinema.

And obviously I knew what he meant with the Einsten comment, but I was just making fun of it since I felt it was just plain stupid and had nothing to do with the converstation. That's just saying, "right KUBRICK!" and the other person would be all like "WTF is that supose to mean?" and he'd be like, "I'm using the name of a person who knew about films in a sarcastic way to say that you don't know nothing of films". Actully, that would be better then Einsten. Since Einsten probably didn't know *beep* about films.

And the messenger quote is actully from College Universtiy. A hilarious show.

"This is real life *beep* that cant be TAKEN BACK."
Taken Back? Are you suggesting that the atrocities seen are done on purpose, like a snuff film? They are just capturing horrific events. The events wouldn't be any less horrible if they weren't captured on film. Should they be censored because they are bad?

"SEPERATE urself from fantasy and fiction before u ask me such a dumbass question."
I never looked this film as fantasy or fiction. I called it shock cinema. It's a documentary.
Some people like reality over fantasy, that is why they would prefer a film that deals with reality uncensored over fantasy, stupid gore-in-sake-of-gore hipster Tarantino bullsh!t.

Um, u are making assumptions about me cuz I have the the line "Wiggle Your Big Toe"....that does not mean I am obsessed with Kill Bill, or Tarantino. I actually have seen only that part of the movie and thought it was funny. I just dont see the point of watching animals being tortured, or people being shot in the head. What is enjoyable about this? Please enlighten me with ur wisdom since you seem to "know" me so well because of a damn tagline I have under my faceless sn.

I'm not making any assumptions about you. When you replied, you talked about Kill Bill being fake and I just replied continuing the conversation. No need to get so defensive.

You don't see a point in seeing grim uncensored reality. Well, for example, a lot of people don't see a point in watching fabricated all-age Disney movies with propaganda, commercials, subtle racism and sexism all over the place. People have different tastes and people have different opinions on what is enjoyable and/or sickening.

I was talking about movies in general. Fake, plots and twists, made EXCLUSIVITLY for people's enjoyment. Everyone is alive and well and making money at the end, noone is banking off noone's pain or horror.

I dont SEE the point in watching something purposely SUFFER and die. What in Gods name is pleasurable out of that???? To watch people cry and things being killed and people doing gross things?? How does that make u a better person?? What goodness do u GET out of that?? If u find things that negative and THAT grotesque and u go to bed with a smile on ur face thinking "SH!T, that person looked IN PAIN when he died, I think I'll wake up tomorrow and have a crumpet", then u are mentally sick as f!ck. U want someone to film UR death and how u struggled and screamed for ur life and get "enjoyment/a thrill"?

Have people watch ur kid fall to their death or watch ur beloved pet being tortured and get "enjoyment/a thrill"? U want someone to film in details about UR son/daughter dying and get "enjoyment/a thrill"?

Yo, thats straight up. Good for u. Hope u have a great family and a fabulous positive life. :D

Done with this wayyyy f!cked messageboard, so dont bother responding cuz u are wasting my damn time. HAVE A FAB LIFE DARLING.

"noone is banking off noone's pain or horror."
That's not true. Stuntmen and actors have died giving you entertainment in films such as Twilight: The Movie. Two kids died in the making of that movie.
There is also a lot of pain in hollywood films - people are exploited in terrible and dreadful ways.

"I dont SEE the point in watching something purposely SUFFER and die. What in Gods name is pleasurable out of that????"
Who says that it has to be pleasurable? These events that transpired on videotape happened whether we watch them or not, seeing them might give us a better understanding on our mortality.

"How does that make u a better person??"
I never said you'd be a better person - just saying you wouldn't be a worse person.

""SH!T, that person looked IN PAIN when he died, I think I'll wake up tomorrow and have a crumpet", then u are mentally sick as f!ck."
So, if you watch something dreadful on the news you have to think about it in a positive light? The human brain is more complex then simply creating thoughts of pleasure and comfort. One who is interested in the last stages of life might be interested to see it on a historical level or even on a trivial level. Everyone can go at any time and just like life is interesting in a scientific way - the end is so as well. After watching a montage of deaths one might think "Destiny has not been kind to all - I'm happy that I don't live in South America where there are death squads, happy that I'm not starving like various other children. I'm happy to be alive". Thoughts like this don't maybe always transpire when watching a fake movie with fake people and fake destinies?

"U want someone to film UR death and how u struggled and screamed for ur life"
If I would die in a horrific way, would my death have more meaning if not documented? I see nothing wrong in my death being historically archived. Maybe my story will inspire others to embrace life, after witnessing me struggling to keep mine.

some people have a desire to see something sick and grotesque and to also to get as close to death without accually experiencing it. is it natural? who knows. is it something to be concerned about? in most cases, i would say probably not. you will get an occasional crazy person viewing these things and try to act on them. i myself, who looked at the light which was angled just right so i could see the reflection of my c-section being performed, like to see surgeries. i'm alright with death..death is a natural part of life and the only thing guaranteed. sometimes you just go out in an interesting way(lion?! cool! totally an option for me!) i haven't viewed this movie, but i have watched faces of death and it didnt make me any worse.

Well, I can tell you why I watch it.
I watch it because it is the greatest way possbile to see the worst in humanity. Everyday, you can see someone performing a good deed and be a nice person, but when can you really see the worst that someone can really be?
This film allows the viewer to enter a gateway into the very bowels of our sick and sadistic primal sides.
Even you were curious enough to watch it, which is further evindence that we all hunger to see all the carnage.

It's just a bunch of crap, mostly. Just your typical murders, terrorism, accidents, suicides - with some animal cruelty thrown in. The video quality is rubbish, like some 8mm film that's been rotting in your grandpa or dad's basement. (You're better off going to Best Gore for high quality and recent nasty sh-t. There's also one going around on the Internet called Facing Reality, which is all more up to date stuff, but with no animal cruelty. Kinda hard to find a working torrent of it, though. I was "lucky" enough to find one that worked a while back.) The music is f-cked up and creepy, though. So I guess they get kudos for that.

Honestly, the only reason people even bother with it is because it's considered a "classic" Z-grade piece of sh-t film and so they can have claimed to have watched it. But, really, no one watches this genre of film for its artistic value.
