Any word on Russell's effort to edit and release to Blu-ray?

I've read that Kurt Russell wants to go back and do a director's cut, utilizing the extended footage that he has available. And while a cut exists on DVD, the quality was lacking and we need this movie restored for a blu-ray release.

I hope that this is true and could be in the works soon.

I would love that.

Maybe in 2018 there will be a special edition 25th anniversary release or something. I have the Director's cut DVD with Tombstone town map, which is pretty cool. I hope something is planned. It's one of my all-time favorite movies and top ten westerns.

I have the old D.C. DVD. I thought it was nicely done. I agree though that a blu ray needs to be released (and soon). Or just go 4K with it.
