QUOTES

I love where the king comes storming in and says, "Cardinal, I demand an answer," to which the Cardinal responds, "Perhaps if I knew the question?!"

Such a smartass...I love it.

I like the cardinal when he says "Dead or Alive.......I prefer DEAD."

Tim Curry's a genius:)

"I've SEEN things you people wouldn't believe...."

Or when Porthos spills the wine and tells Aramis, "Ok, next time you drive."

Porthos: You, boy, are arrogant, hot tempered and entirely too bold. I like that. Reminds me of me.

Porthos: This sash was a gift to me, from the Queen of America.
D'Artagnan: There's no queen of America!
Porthos: I beg to differ, infant. We're on quite intimate terms, unless you can prove otherwise.

Porthos:Champagne?
Athos: We're in the middle of a chase!
Porthos: You're right. Something red, then?

Porthos is the cool one...forget aramis' poetic prowess and athos' bitter wisdom!:)

"I've SEEN things you people wouldn't believe...."

reply

Porthos: "Aha! The Cardinal's secret snack chamber!"

I also love the part where Milady de Winter pulls a knife on Cardinal Richelieu and tells him that with a flick of her wrist, she could change his religion!

absolutely...i also like when prothos says to d'artagnan: Little pimple, meet at the church at noon, and bring a long wooden box..(or something like that). The cardinal and porthos had the best lines, dude:)

"I've SEEN things you people wouldn't believe...."

reply

You're so right that Porthos and the Cardinal had the best lines in the movie!

I feel a bit sheepish in admitting that I never paid much attention to Oliver Platt in his other movies, but I found myself oddly attracted to him during the course of this one.

A man with a sense of humor can be quite sexy.

"I've SEEN things you people wouldn't believe...."

reply

Thank you.

Has been and always will be one of my favorites. That and it's sort of sequel The Man in the Iron Mask.

reply

D'Artagnan: Let's drink to love.
Athos: To love. Let me tell you a story about love, D'Artagnan. I knew a young man once, a Count, who feared he would never fall in love. One day, he met a woman. This woman was more than beautiful. She was intoxicating, mysterious, everything he'd ever dreamed of. He felt his heart would burst if he couldn't have her.
D'Artagnan: What happened?
Athos: The poor idiot married her

Maggots, maggots Michael your eating maggots. How do they taste?

reply

I do believe you have that backwards. The Man in the Iron Mask is a sequel to The Three Musketeers.

If you look at the characters, the King Louis they are defending in The Man In The Iron Mask is the "son" of this Louis and Queen Anne. Not to mention, the Musketeers are much older in the second movie.

Anyway I didn't mean to split hairs, just getting things straight.

One of my Favorite Athos Quotes that was not listed yer that I could see is...

"Rochefort? Isn't that a smelly kind of a cheese?"

And you are correct. Between Oliver Platt and Tim Curry, they had all the best lines.

reply

That's what I said... I love Three Musketeers and it's sequal The Man in the Iron Mask. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that they're older and the characters have changed...D'Artangan being the Captian is a big clue as to which one I'm watching.

"Headache, dry mouth, the irresistable urge to run on a small wheel."

reply

OOps Duh my bad. I misread the original post...apparently didn't see the "sort of" part. So sorry!

reply

Porthos: Little pimple....

That alone is hilarious.

Roman Polanski: The original five foot pole you don't want to touch anyone with.

reply

I do not often laugh, sirs, as you may perceive by the expression of my countenance; but nevertheless I retain the privilege of laughing when I please.

reply

Aramis: "See you in Calias."
Athos: "Or Hell!"

The Cardinal: "Dead or alive? I prefer.....DEAD"

The Cardinal: "All for one. And more for me"

Kult...

reply

My favorite is the Cardinal, when he says, "You would have made a fine Musketeer, but now we'll never know...will we?" and he does that little head bob at the end. Cracks me up every time.

reply

Porthos had too many great lines.:D
henchmen: It's Porthos the Pirate! AAAAH! (The Henchmen jump overboard)D'Artagnan: Pirate? Porthos: I told you I was famous.

Porthos: The picnic was delicious, the champagne was excellent, remind me to send the Cardinal a note.

Cardinal's guard: Are you coming peacefully or do you intend to resist? Porthos: Oh don't be so stupid, of course we intend to resist! Just give us a moment, all right? (To Arthos and Aramis) Porthos: Five of them, three of us. Hardly seems fair. Aramis: Maybe we should give them a chance to surrender

reply

I don't have a quote or anything. But I haven't seen this movie in ages, and yet after reading all these lines i can still remember the scenes and expressions vividly! Wonderful movie & and thanks for the quotes ppl.

lets dance, you and i

reply

I have a good quote, from Aramis (Charlie Sheen); I think it's my favorite from the movie. The scene is right after Aramis has been shot by Cardinal Richeleu (Tim Curry). The other musketeers are surprised to see he's still alive; they discover the bullet's been stopped by the crucifix he wears around his neck.)

Aramis: "You see? There IS a God!"

reply

How about when Porthos says: I was dealing with something...ugly.

"Music comes from within, from your heart, and from your soul"

Richelieu: Austria's loss is France's gain.
Richelieu: Bad Timing.
Porthos: Bring a long wooden box.
D'Artagnan: Bring your own.
Queen Anne: I am not worthy of such a compliment.

reply

Athos: "Only a fool would try to arrest us twice in one day."
Cardinal's Guard: "You're under arrest!"
Porthos/Aramis: "A fool."

Richelieu: "You of all people should know that the Cardinal does not answer to the laws of men!"
Aramis: "Then you'll answer to God!"

Porthos: "Whoa! Ugly!"

Good cast all around, and endlessly quotable; I'm sorry most of the good lines have already been said.

Denny Crane.

reply

I like it when the Cardinal is telling his plan to the king and says "...with the queen at my side."
Queen Anne "I'd rather be dead."
Cardinal (standing up, kicking the foot stool over, and yelling) "That can be arranged."

reply

So many good lines in this movie.

Probably my personal favorite is when the guards come to arrest the Musketeers and ask if they are going to resist. And Porthos's reply is so perfect. "Don't be stupid, of course we're going to resist! Just give us a minute, all right?" Makes me laugh every single time, even though I know it's coming.

I also love Aramis's line "on second thought, God's awfully busy" while trying to escape the murder-bent husband.

Looking back I did one for Porthos and one for Aramis so here's my fave Athos line--"Go! Or I will shoot you myself!" as he makes D'artagnan leave him.

As for Tim Curry, too many to post here!
