DeNiro was amazing as Dwight

100% agreed , but I think the true breakout was DiCaprio. He had an amazing run in the early to mid 90s with This Boys Life, and Basketball diaries as well as What's Eating Gilbert Grape. After those (Oscar worthy performances) he hit it big time with Titanic , and the rest is history. Definitely the best actor of my time. Being born in the mid eighties he's the best I've seen come up as a kid.
DeNiro was amazing, but had been a star in big roles already. Though I may argue this was his one of his top 3 best performances ever.

He was very creepy, but the dialogue and his accent made it a bit comical at times. I assume that was intentional, even Toby makes fun of Dwight in the film. However, I found myself laughing at this guy instead of fearing him. But if I was the boy or his wife its not funny at all. But even they laughed at him....I guess that's the brilliance of Dwight...he's either a dork or a sadistic creep...you don't whether to run or laugh.
