The "Zhang Sanfeng" geskhan refers to is the one popularized by Jin Yong, the author of the condor heroes that geskhan mentioned. In Jin Yong's version, Zhang Sanfeng was born in 1247. He got kicked out of shaolin when he was about 10 year old. The story then flashes forward to his 100th birthday. Then the story then moved forward another 5 years or so and Zhang Sanfeng was still alive. The Yuan Dynasty lasted from 1279 to 1368 A.D. So if Jin Yong version is correct, Zhang Sanfeng might had lived through 3 dynasties. But to the OP's question, the story probably takes place near the end of the Song Dynasty since he was recently kicked out of Shaolin.
Anyway, back to the topic, there are many legends/folklores surround Zhang Sanfeng. No one actually knows for sure. Some sources say he lived from 1314~1320 to 1417, which is in the Yuan Dynasty (*1). Other source claims that he lived from 1247-1447AD, which means he lived in the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties (*2). Other source claimed that Taichi was attributed to Zhang Sanfeng because some martial art master wanted to mythify his technique by creating the legend (*3, *4). Keep in mind that he is a folklore, so there is no way of knowing for sure. Some stories say that he lived for more than 150 years, 7 ft tall.
