limp

Why did Arvid have a limp? I'm guessing polio at a young age, but it wasn't really clearly explained. BTW, I thought this was a very good movie.

His agent got him the part, but after reading the script Frank Whaley threw himself down some stairs to get out of the role. The producers liked his dedication, so they incorporated his resulting limp into the story.

I found online (and you can see it in the scene when the HJ smash his record) that he has a clubfoot.

See, that's the point. He was a cripple without regard to why or how. That's all that mattered to the Nazi.

I thought it was probably polio. One of the complications of the disease is something that is similar to a clubfoot.

Maybe this is very tasteless on my part.....but....did anyone else wonder why he had to try and begin to dance as he was walking up a REALLY steep hill?! I think that most relatively coordinated individuals would have about a 50/50 chance of doing a face plant!

And because Thomas recently told him he couldn’t.
