Could somebody please explain what happened??????

Okay, I'm guessing that part of the punch line was that it was in fact Clay who killed their father, and that it was CLay who killed Vincent to step into his shoes. Bu then what really happened with the car bombing, and how could Renee and everyone else not know immediately that Clay was not Vincent, given the obvious difference that Clay was black and Vincent was white?

From one of the reviews I read, I gather that part of the answer is that you;re not supposed to take the movie literally -- that in fact the two brothers did look almost alike, and the director cast very different looking actors as a rhetorical gesture. But if so, why?

What happened here?????

The movie made no sense, I agree. It was decently filmed but I feel it's overrated.

Huh. I never took the understanding that it was actually Clay who killed their father or had any kind of devious plan in the first place. Vincent killed his father and then tried to fake his death and subsume Clay's identity with the car bombing to escape conviction, then tried to finish the job when Clay survived. At the end Clay killed Vincent in self-defence, at the same time regaining his memory. Realising that the police dropped him/Vincent as a suspect for the father's murder, Clay then realized he had a choice: he could return to his old, poor life that he hated, or he could just as easily subsume Vincent's identity and rich lifestyle, and that's what he did. That was my interpretation.

I also believe we were supposed to assume they actually did look almost identical, so the fact they cast a black and a white actor as the two brothers was a very interesting decision, but I think it works with the film's aesthetic. Also, if they actually did look the same it would probably be even more confusing for the audience.
